In early December of the twentieth year, the Japanese officially declassified the new (fourth) generation Acura MDX 4 crossover. Before us is the flagship model, which the developers themselves refer to as “the most luxurious and temperamental off-road vehicle of the brand.”
Acura MDX 2021 in a new body attracts attention with its increased dimensions with an elongated hood. At the same time, the “face” of the car with the branded “shield” of the radiator grill remained recognizable, although a different bumper and narrow JewelEye LED headlights made the front end more aggressive.
In turn, the monumental feed is notable for compact lanterns and flattened exhaust pipes, and as discs for the model, “rollers” with a diameter of up to 21 ″ are offered. In the cabin, the new Acura MDH 2021 retained the three-row cabin layout, while the developers used Milano leather and decorative inserts made of aluminum and wood for the interior decoration.
The front seats now boast a vibrating massager with nine operating modes. The second row has three seats by default, with the side seats representing the captain’s seats, while the center seat back reclines forward to form a wide center armrest with cup holders.
The company notes that the third row of the new model has become more spacious (the increase in free legroom is about 60 mm). The seating position in the gallery is also higher, and the panoramic roof is designed to provide a more “airy” interior. And the 2021 Acura MDX became the first model of the brand with a fully digital dashboard: the car was equipped with a 12.3-inch monitor of the Precision Cockpit system, which has several display modes at once.
By the way, the display of the multimedia system has a similar diagonal here, and the Japanese still offer to control the functionality of the latter from the touchpad located on the central tunnel. The entertainment complex’s arsenal includes support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay interfaces, as well as the Amazon Alexa voice assistant.
In addition, regular music with seven speakers is designed to please passengers, although for a surcharge, music lovers can order a 550-watt ELS Studio 3D audio system with 12 speakers, or even choose a 710-watt ELS Studio 3D Premium complex with 16 speakers. Plus, the list of equipment also includes a 10.5-inch head-up display.
The new 2021 Acura MDX body is based on the same platform that the TLX sedan received earlier. Instead of the usual MacPherson struts, a double wishbone suspension is used at the front, and a multi-link is used at the rear. The new rear shock mounts have increased the rigidity by 41% for more precise handling.
It is reported that with the change of generations, the overall length of the crossover has increased to 5,054 mm (+ 71), and the width – up to 1,996 mm (+ 35), the wheelbase of the model has also become larger – 2,896 mm (+ 76). In the base, the car is still equipped with a 3.5-liter naturally-aspirated V6 engine with 294 hp. This motor works in conjunction with a new ten-speed automatic machine with push-button control and paddles on the steering wheel. If necessary, such a box can jump four gears up or down at once.
In the future, the top-end performance of the Acura MDX Type S with a 3.0-liter “turbo six” with direct injection, developing 360 “horses” will appear on the market. Plus, this version will be able to boast of more efficient four-piston Brembo brakes “in a circle”, retuned automatic and suspension, as well as an all-wheel drive system.
Note that on the basic version of the Acura MDX 2021 model year, the default drive is front, while the proprietary fourth-generation SH-AWD all-wheel drive transmission with individual couplings for connecting the rear wheels is offered for a surcharge. It can throw back up to 70% of the torque while sending up to 100% of the thrust to a particular wheel.
The production of the 4th generation Acura MDX will be established at the American plant of the brand in Ohio. Sales of new items in the States will start in February 2021 at a price of $ 46,900 (3.4 million rubles at the current exchange rate) for the front-wheel drive version, while for the all-wheel drive version they ask for at least $ 48,900 (about 3.6 million rubles). The “warmed” version of the Type S will appear not earlier than summer, there is no information on its cost yet.
