The American startup Lordstown Motors from Ohio, sponsored by the General Motors concern, presented the Endurance electric pickup truck. The model is a truck completely ready for mass production, on the appearance of which the specialists of the Hydra Design Labs studio worked.
With their submission, the car received quite a standard appearance, although it can boast of an unusual design of the front bumper with narrow headlights. Plus, the car is notable for wheels with decorative winding of electric motors.
The Americans are in no hurry to reveal the interior of the pickup truck, although a corresponding sketch was previously published on the network, according to which the car will have a four-spoke steering wheel and digital dashboard and multimedia system screens combined in one unit.
In technical terms, the Lordstown Endurance has a frame structure, where a double wishbone with springs is installed at the front, and a dependent leaf spring suspension is used at the rear, with the springs attached to the outside of the frame.
The “green” pickup truck is equipped with four compact electric motors, which are built directly into the wheels. It is reported that they were developed in cooperation with Elaphe, and their total output is about 600 hp. (6,000 Nm).
According to the automaker, this solution minimized the number of moving parts in the truck’s design. However, there are also obvious disadvantages – these are large unsprung masses.
The electric motors are powered for their work from a traction battery with a capacity of 70 kWh located under the cab and inscribed between the side members of the frame, which provides the pickup with a cruising range of “over 400 km”. In terms of dynamics, the truck can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (97 km / h) in 5.5 seconds, but the car can only accelerate to 128 km / h.
How much weight the trailer is capable of towing Lordstown Endurance – the developers themselves have not yet decided, because in one of the sections of the official website the value of 2.7 tons appears, and in the other – 3.4 tons.
The start of sales of an electric pickup truck is scheduled for the beginning of two thousand twenty-first at a price of $ 52,500 (3.6 million rubles). The car will be produced at a plant in Ohio, and within the first year, 20 thousand cars should come off the assembly line of the enterprise. The company’s plans are ambitious, but quite realizable, since 14 thousand pre-orders have already been accepted for the “green” pickup.
