In mid-April of the twenty-first year, the Germans declassified the Audi Q4 e-tron crossover, and in two body types at once: the coupe-like one with the Sportback prefix in the name made the company to the usual version of the model.
The novelty does not have a traditional radiator grill, but there is a blind plug stylized for it, while a real air intake is provided in the lower part of the bumper.
The car already has narrow LED headlights in the base, and matrix head optics are available for an additional charge. It is interesting that through the menu of the on-board system, the pattern of the running lights can be changed, and there are four options to choose from. Depending on the configuration, the car can be delivered on wheels with a diameter of 19 to 21 inches.
All other things being equal, the Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback has a more streamlined body, due to which it boasts the best drag coefficient Cx – 0.26, while this parameter is 0.28 on the regular version of the crossover.
One of the distinctive features of the Q4 e-tron’s cabin is the two-tier center console, on the top tier of which is the transmission control panel, and on the bottom tier the wireless smartphone charger.
The crossover already in the base has a 10.25-inch virtual device with three display modes and a 10.1-inch touchscreen of the multimedia system, although in more expensive versions the latter is already 11.6 ″. The entertainment complex can be controlled using the voice command system, which is activated by the phrase “Hey, Audi”.
In addition, the electric Audi Q 4 e-throne became the first model of the German brand to receive touch-sensitive buttons on the steering wheel. But the climate control control unit is traditional here, with physical keys. As an option for the car, a head-up display with augmented reality function is offered, which displays prompts for the driver “right on the road”.
In the initial versions of the model, the seats are upholstered with 45-50% recyclable materials (including recycled plastic bottles), although nappa leather is available for a surcharge. Between the front seats, the developers have provided a central airbag, and in the doors – holders for liter bottles (at the level of the armrests).
The seats in the car are arranged in an amphitheater: the back row is 7 cm higher than the front one. An absolutely flat floor and a spacious front row are also designed to please passengers, and the latter was achieved by shifting the climate system closer to the nose of the car. True, because of this decision, the front trunk had to be abandoned.
The developers are proud to note that in terms of the amount of free space, the interior of an electric crossover can compete with larger gasoline or diesel SUVs.
The Audi Q4 e-tron 2021 is based on the Volkswagen Group MEB electric platform. In technical terms, the model is largely unified with the Volkswagen ID.4 and Skoda Enyaq iV. The overall length of the model is 4,588, the wheelbase is 2,764, the width is 1,865, and the height is 1,632 (1,614 on the Sportback). Thus, in the model range of the brand, the car will be located between Q3 and Q5.
The volume of the trunk “under the shelf” is declared at 520 liters, and on the coupe-like Audi Q4 e-throne Sportback – 535 liters. The back of the rear sofa is divided into sections in a ratio of 40:20:40, and if it is folded down, the capacity of the cargo compartment will increase to 1,490 and 1,460 liters, respectively.
In the base of the Q4, the e-tron has one electric motor on the rear axle, which means that we have the first mass-produced Audi model with rear-wheel drive. Such a crossover is driven by a 170 hp unit. (310 Nm), powered by a 52 kWh lithium-ion traction battery. Interestingly, the latter here weighs as much as 350 kg, and another 100 kg falls on its aluminum body, integrated into the power structure of the body.
As a result, the curb weight of the base modification is 1,890 kg. According to the manufacturer, it takes 9.0 seconds to accelerate from zero to a hundred. The maximum speed is electronically limited to 160 km / h. The power reserve is declared at 341 km (WLTP cycle), although the more streamlined Sportback variant can cover up to 349 kilometers.
The “mid-range” version of the Audi Q4 40 e-tron is offered exclusively with a regular body. There is a 204 hp electric motor. (310 Nm) and a 77 kWh battery. From zero to hundreds, acceleration is possible in 8.5 seconds, and the maximum speed is the same 160 km / h, but this option is the longest – the declared mileage is 520 km.
The top-of-the-line version is the all-wheel drive Audi Q4 50 e-tron. It has an additional electric motor on the front axle, although the latter is connected only as needed. In total, the units produce 299 “horses” and 460 Nm of torque. With this “stuffing” the crossover is capable of accelerating from 0-100 km / h in 6.2 seconds, and its speed limit is 180 km / h.
The battery of the all-wheel drive version is also with a capacity of 77 kWh, the cruising range of a conventional crossover is 488 km, and of a coupe-like one – 497 km. It is reported that the battery of the model can be recharged both from a household outlet and from special terminals with a capacity of up to 125 kW. In the latter case, the range can be refilled to 130 km in 10 minutes.
The front of the new Audi Q4 e-throne model is equipped with MacPherson struts, and the rear has a multi-link. At the same time, several suspension options themselves have been prepared. In addition to the usual one, there is a “sport” one with 15 mm lower ground clearance (included in the S line package), as well as an adaptive one.
On the all-wheel drive, the base has a steering gear with a variable tooth pitch, which is offered as an option for other versions. It is curious that simple drum brakes are installed on the rear wheels of the car. Among other equipment, it is worth noting the adaptive cruise control with a set of electronic assistants.
The Audi Q4 e-tron will be produced in the same place where the VW ID.4 is made, that is, at a plant in Zwickau, Germany. In Germany, sales of the crossover will begin in June twenty-first. The usual version costs from 41,900 euros (3.8 million rubles at the current exchange rate), and the coupe-like Sportback – from € 43,900 (4.0 million rubles).
