The Germans have brought a prototype Audi Q8 Concept to the Detroit Auto Show 2017, which is a harbinger of the brand’s largest crossover in development. The car received a coupe-like body and an aggressive body kit with large air intakes at the front and a massive diffuser at the rear.
In addition, the concept Audi Q8 lacks door handles and the side windows have no bezels. In terms of design, the model has received many stylistic decisions from the Prologue concept series, while the exterior of the Ku 8 also contains references to the classic quattro model produced in the 80s.
The interior of the crossover is designed for four people, while the seats have a combined upholstery of nappa leather, nubuck and textiles. The interior design itself is made in the style of the latest models of the brand, while the prototype has a different configuration of the digital instrument panel Virtual Cockpit, and the touchscreen of the multimedia system is “hidden” on the front panel. In addition, there is a touch-sensitive climate control unit in the front and in the second row.
The dimensions of the Audi Q8 Concept are 5,002, 2,040 and 1,700 mm in length, width and height, respectively. The trunk volume is designed for 630 liters. As for the technical stuffing, the prototype is driven by a hybrid power plant with the ability to recharge batteries from a household power supply.
It consists of a 3.0-liter “turbo six” with a capacity of 333 hp, a 136-horsepower electric motor, a set of lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 17.9 kWh and an eight-speed automatic. The maximum torque of such an installation reaches 700 Nm.
Note that the propulsion system can operate in one of three modes: EV (only electric traction is used), hybrid (combined) and battery hold (used to conserve battery power). The Germans note that the prototype accelerates from zero to 100 km / h in 5.4 seconds, and its maximum speed is electronically limited to 250 km / h.
In terms of fuel consumption, the pre-production Audi Ku8 requires about 2.3 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers. On one electric traction, the off-road vehicle is capable of covering up to 60 kilometers, while the total cruising range with full tanks reaches 1,000 km. The batteries can be charged in about 2.5 hours.
The production version of the new Audi Q8 is expected to make its market debut in 2018 and will compete for buyers with the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe models. And later, an all-electric modification of the Q8 e-tron is expected, which will give battle to the Tesla Model X.
