The premiere of the second generation Audi R8 Spyder II supercar took place at the New York Auto Show two thousand sixteen – exactly one year after the appearance of the coupe. And in October of the eighteenth, the manufacturer prepared a restyled version of the model.
Outside, the 2018-2019 Audi R8 Spyder in a new body almost completely repeats the original, with the exception of the roof and the engine compartment cover. The roof itself is fabric, and electric drives are responsible for its transformation. The updated version on the outside has acquired different bumpers, a different design of wheel rims, three slots above the radiator grill, a mesh for the entire width of the stern and round exhaust pipes.
The weight of the entire structure is 44 kg, the raising and lowering of the roof takes 20.0 seconds, and the procedure can be done on the move, if the speed does not exceed 50 kilometers per hour.
At the same time, the company worked to improve sound insulation, and a special deflector behind the backs of the seats made it possible to significantly reduce air turbulence in the area of the head and neck of the driver and passenger.
The interior design of the new 2018 Audi R8 Spyder model repeats that of the coupe. A fully digital instrument panel in the form of a 12.3-inch screen is already installed by default here, as well as a Bang & Olufsen audio system with speakers in the headrests (two in each).
The supercar is built around the Audi Space Frame, which is 80% aluminum and is additionally reinforced for this version. The company notes that the torsional rigidity of the car is 50% higher than that of its predecessor. On the restyled version, the suspension and steering mechanism were modified, and for a surcharge, it became possible to order a lightweight (- 2 kg) front stabilizer made of carbon fiber and aluminum.
The overall length of the Audi R8 Spyder 2021 is 4 426 mm, the wheelbase is 2 650, the width is 1 940, the height is 1 244. The dry weight is 1,612 kg versus 1,454 for the coupe, and the power-to-weight ratio is 335 forces per ton (371 on a hard top car). The recalibrated ABS and ESP settings made it possible to reduce the braking distance from one hundred kilometers per hour by 1.5 meters, and from two hundred – by five meters.
The Audi R8 Spyler is driven by a 5.2-liter aspirated V10 with 540 hp. (540 Nm). Power is transmitted to all wheels by a 7-band S tronic robot with two clutches. From a place to a hundred, the spider accelerates in 3.6 seconds (0.1 seconds slower than a coupe, but 0.2 – faster than a car of the previous generation), takes the 200 km / h mark in 11.8 seconds, and reaches a maximum speed 318 km / h.

On the updated car, the engine power was increased to 570 hp. and 550 Nm of torque, so that acceleration to hundreds was reduced by 0.1 sec. (up to 3.5 s), and the maximum speed increased to 322 km / h (+ 4). A more powerful version of the Audi R8 V10 Spyder performance (previously this version was called plus) now develops 620 “horses” (+ 10) and 580 Nm (+ 20), allowing you to gain a hundred from a standstill in 3.2 seconds and accelerate to the maximum 329 kilometers in hour.
For an extra charge, the model is available with carbon-ceramic brakes, 20-inch wheels (19-inch in the base) and laser head optics. The sales of the spider on the Russian market have not yet begun, while for the coupe we are asked for at least 11,200,000 rubles.
