On July 29, 2013, the official presentation of the production version of the compact electric hatchback BMW i3 took place at the same time in New York, London and Beijing. The world premiere of the novelty took place at the September Frankfurt Motor Show.
Compared to the concept first shown in the summer of 2011, the production version of the 2018-2019 BMW i3 does not look too radically different from the prototype. The key difference was the more traditional rear doors (the doors open against the direction of travel, like on the Mazda RX-8), from which the glazing in the lower part has disappeared, as well as a redesigned front end with a different bumper and modified optics.

The interior of the model also became less futuristic, but still retained the solution used on the original with two floating LCD displays on the front panel. The first plays the role of a dashboard, and the larger one above the center console is responsible for displaying all other information, including data from the BMW ConnectedDrive service.
Overall length of BMW ai 3 2021 is 3,999 mm (wheelbase – 2,570), width – 1,775, height – 1,578, ground clearance (clearance) – 140 mm. The model weighs 1,195 kg, and its axial ratio has an ideal distribution in the ratio of 50:50.
The car is driven by a modern electric motor located at the rear of the 170-horsepower (250 Nm), which weighs only 50 kilograms and, according to the creators, is one of the most advanced power units of this class today. With it, the hatchback picks up a hundred from a standstill in 7.2 seconds (from 0 to 60 km / h in 3.8 seconds), and the maximum speed reaches 150 km / h.
A lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 22 kWh is responsible for powering the electric motor, the full charge of which is enough for a mileage of 130-200 kilometers, depending on the driving cycle and the selected operating mode of the power plant. At the same time, initially the BMW i3 could be ordered with an additional 650-cc 34-horsepower gasoline engine (later completely abandoned), which plays the role of a generator and turns the electric car into a serial hybrid.
With it, the cruising range could be increased to 300 km. It takes 8 hours to recharge the battery from a household network, and recharging the battery to 80% using a special 50 kW express charger takes less than half an hour. In two thousand and sixteenth, the Bavarians promise to release an updated version of the electric car with an increased power reserve.
The standard equipment of the 2019 BMW i3 includes an advanced regenerative braking system, which switches to generator mode, slowing the car, even with the slightest release of the accelerator pedal. At the same time, the work of the system automatically changes on the track, allowing you to coast without such active deceleration.
European sales of the BMW i3 electric car started in November thirteenth at a price of 34,950 euros, but the new product can only be purchased from select dealers. For example, in Germany, the manufacturer selected only 45 out of 200 salons, while in Russia their number is even two – one each in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

We had a new BMW ah 3 was supposed to appear during 2014, but in the end it never happened. The BMW i8 sports car later made it to the Russian market, but the official deliveries of the compact hatchback did not begin.
Updated BMW i3 2017
In the spring of 2016, the BMW i3 hatchback received a new set of high-capacity batteries, thanks to which the electric car’s power reserve increased by 50%. The company notes that the development of new batteries was carried out in cooperation with Samsung. By joining forces, the specialists managed to increase the battery capacity from 22 to 33 kWh, while the range of the electric version of ai increased from 190 km to 300 km.
According to representatives of the Bavarian brand, the BMW i3 2019 with upgraded batteries can travel more than 200 km even in cold weather and a working climate control system.
Note that the new battery set is available not only for the 170-horsepower electric BMW i3, but also for the hybrid version. The latter additionally has a 647 cc petrol engine, which is used to recharge the batteries, increasing the range by another 150 kilometers.
The Germans managed to maintain the same dimensions of the new battery pack, but at the same time it turned out to be 50 kg heavier than the previous one, which slightly affected the dynamics of the model. So, to accelerate from zero to hundreds of electric BMW i 3 2021 requires 7.3 seconds (+ 0.1), and hybrid – 8.1 seconds (+ 0.2). The top speed is still limited to 150 km / h.
The price of a compact BMW i3 2021 with a new set of batteries in Germany starts from 36,150 euros, while the Bavarians ask for a minimum of € 41,150 for the version with an internal combustion engine. In Russia, they initially asked for a minimum of 4,360,000 rubles for the updated hybrid, but later the cost was reduced to 3 RUB 840,000
Updated BMW i3 2018
The 2018 BMW i3 will premiere at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The car received fully LED head optics, modified bumpers, due to which the overall length of the car increased by 12 mm (up to 4,011), as well as a new design of wheel disks.
In addition, the new BMW ai 3 2019 outwardly stands out with a different body paint scheme and the “nostrils” of the branded radiator grille, which have lost the blue edging. In the cabin, 80% of the visible elements of which are made from recycled materials, there have been no major changes.
We can only mention the improved iDrive system, which received a 10.25-inch high-definition screen, as well as a new menu structure and expanded functionality. For example, it became possible to search for a free parking space through a special application. In terms of technology on the i3, everything remained the same.
