Bugatti Chiron became the fastest car in the world

The Bugatti Chiron hypercar was introduced back in two thousand and sixteenth, and all this time everyone was waiting for the manufacturer to hold races in order to establish the real top speed of the model, which is artificially limited here to 420 km / h.

At the same time, the predecessor in the face of the Veyron SuperSport modification was able to accelerate to 431 km / h in the two thousand and tenth. Then the Swedish Koenigsegg Agera RS took the record for the maximum speed among production cars, raising the bar to 446.97 km / h.

As a result, after the introduction of the Chiron model, Bugatti’s company took another three years before they took their car to a special test track in Germany to overcome the milestone of 300 miles per hour (482 km / h). And they did it!

The record run took place on August 2, 2019, during which the company’s factory test pilot, represented by Andy Wallace, was able to accelerate the hypercar to a speed of 490.484 km / h. This result was officially recorded by the German technical inspection TUV.

But the tests involved not the standard Chiron and not even its lightweight Sport version, but a special modified prototype that received a number of noticeable differences. At the same time, the manufacturer assures that this prototype is as ready as possible for launching into production, so it is possible that we will soon see the Chiron SuperSport.

Firstly, the changed rear part of the car immediately catches the eye, which became 25 cm longer, and also acquired a more developed diffuser and four exhaust pipes protruding from the body. This solution is designed to minimize the effect of hot exhaust gases on aerodynamics.

Also, the front fenders and bumper were revised, while special laser sensors on the go give the order for the adaptive suspension in order to lower the ground clearance as much as possible. Among other things, the passenger seat was removed from the car to lighten the mass.

The engine on the record-breaking Chiron has undergone a modernization, due to which the output of the W16 with four turbochargers has been increased from the original 1,500 to 1,600 “horses”. The notorious tires, the absence of which was previously called one of the reasons for the impossibility of setting a speed record, were specially developed for this modification by Michelin, and racing engineers from Dallara were involved in the finalization of the chassis.

In an interview with Top Gear, Bugatti President Stefan Winkelmann said that this version of the Chiron will be the last with which the company will race for the title of the world’s fastest car. In the future, the manufacturer is going to focus on other areas.

So if someone manages to surpass the maximum speed of 490 km / h, and sooner or later this will surely happen, then the answer from Bugatti, most likely, will not follow. It is possible that in the future they will want to make the most powerful or most expensive SUV in the world.
