In December of the nineteenth year, as part of a special event at the Little Seasars Arena in Detroit, the premiere of the new generation Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban frame SUVs took place. Both models were in many respects unified with the Chevrolet Silverado 4 pickup.
Outside, the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe attracts attention with an updated front end design that has become more brutal. In general, the “face” of the model remained recognizable, but the Americans abandoned the two-story head optics, while retaining the brackets of the navigation lights. From now on, the SUV has compact LED headlights located on the upper level.

The new body of the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe received a different radiator grille with large chrome fins and a redesigned front bumper, where the side sections are vertical air intakes. In turn, new lights and a decorative chrome strip on the fifth door appeared at the stern, under which the model name is displayed in large letters.
Note that in terms of exterior design, both SUVs presented are almost identical, and the Tahoe can be distinguished from the Suburban only by the length of the body (the latter is noticeably longer in size). As for the wheels, depending on the configuration, the cars rely on rims of 18, 20 or 22 inches.
With the change of generations, the interior of the new Chevrolet Tahoe 2021 has become noticeably stricter and more modern, while GM decided to keep the classic analog instrument panel. The latter here consists of two large dials and four more compact scales. Plus, there was a place on the tidy for a small 4.2-inch screen of the on-board computer.
The infotainment system now features a 10.0-inch tablet towering above the center console. Plus, it received support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay interfaces. For a surcharge, the SUV can be equipped with an 8.0-inch screen in the instrument cluster, as well as a 15-inch head-up display. Another option is the 12.6-inch screens for the second-row entertainment system.
Interestingly, the Americans nevertheless abandoned the traditional steering column “poker” automatic transmission, placing a button panel to the left of the multimedia display to control the box. It even has “+” and “-” keys for manual gear shifting.
The 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe has moved to the GM T1 platform, which the Americans plan to use on the new generation Cadillac Escalade and GMC Yukon models. The SUV received a stronger frame and a fully independent rear suspension instead of the old rifled axle.
At the base of the car, springs and passive shock absorbers are put, and for an additional charge – the Magnetic Ride Control suspension, with the ability to adjust the stiffness of the shock absorbers, and for the first time, air suspension became available for an additional charge. With the latter, you can adjust the ground clearance in the range of 102 mm, while while driving on the highway, the electronics automatically lower the ground clearance by 19 mm to improve aerodynamics and reduce fuel consumption.
As for the dimensions, the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe in the new body has become noticeably larger. The length of the “American” now reaches 5 351 mm (+ 169), while its wheelbase was stretched to 3 071 mm (+ 125). But the width and height of the model have practically not changed and are equal to 2,058 and 1,927 mm, respectively.
Note that the increase was evenly distributed between the third row of seats and the trunk. Thanks to this approach, the gallery became noticeably more spacious (the increase in free space in the legs was 40%). The second row here for the first time received a longitudinal adjustment in the range of 254 mm. You can move forward / backward as a basic three-seater sofa, and separate armchairs offered for a surcharge.
It is reported that the volume of the cargo compartment on the Tahoe has increased from 433 to 733 liters (according to the American SAE method). If the seats of the third and second rows are folded into the floor, the hold capacity will amount to an impressive 3,479 liters (+ 30%).
The Chevrolet Suburban 2021 also grew slightly: the distance between its axles increased by 105 mm (up to 3,407 mm), and the increase in length was 32 mm (up to 5,732 mm). By default, the volume of its trunk is 1,164 liters (+ 51), and with the seats of the third and second rows folded down, the cargo area can hold 4,097 liters (+ 19%).
The powertrain lineup for the new Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban models is common. There are three engines to choose from, among which are the well-known gasoline aspirated V8s from the last generation. They have been slightly modernized and have direct fuel injection, as well as a system for shutting off part of the cylinders at low loads.
The initial version relies on a 5.3-liter engine with 360 hp. (519 Nm), while the top version of the High Country is equipped with a 6.2-liter engine with 426 forces (623 Nm). Plus, a turbodiesel from the Silverado pickup truck has now become available for cars. We are talking about a 3.0-liter Duramax V6 with 281 “horses” and 623 Nm of torque.
Regardless of the engine chosen, all versions of the SUV are equipped with a nine-speed automatic, developed jointly with Ford. Basic versions are rear-wheel drive, with an all-wheel drive transmission with front-axle clutch and crawler gear offered as an option.
There are six trim levels for the new Chevrolet Tahoe 2021. In addition to the basic LS and LT versions, the car can be ordered in the off-road version Z71 (there was no such thing before) and the “sporty” RST. The richest modifications are called Premier and High Country.
For a surcharge, nine all-round cameras, a panoramic roof and a complex of electronic assistants are offered, including a system for keeping the car in the lane and a frontal collision warning function with automatic emergency braking.
Serial production of the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban was established at a plant in Texas Arlington, where models of the previous generation were produced. The start of sales of an SUV in Russia is scheduled for July 1, 2021 – at first it was decided to supply us cars with only a 5.3-liter V8 in expensive Z71 and RST trim levels, the minimum price is 6,150,000 rubles.
