At the Beijing Motor Show 2012, the German concern Daimler, together with its Chinese partner, BYD, presented the concept of an electric vehicle under the Denza brand. And two years later, in the same place, the serial version of the model debuted.
Compared to the prototype, the appearance of the production-ready Denza is more modest. The electric car received a different lighting technology, different bumpers and rims, and the rear doors open according to the standard scheme, and not against the course, as it was on the concept.
But overall, the Denza five-door hatchback looks pretty solid. The exterior design uses a lot of chrome elements, and the taillights flaunt light-diode sections. The interior of the car also looks modern, on the central tunnel of which there is a new branded Mercedes touchpad.
Denza is driven by a 91-horsepower electric motor (290 Nm), which was originally powered by a lithium-iron-phosphate battery with a capacity of 47.5 kilowatt-hours.
Its full charge was enough to overcome three hundred kilometers, while the maximum speed of the hatchback is 150 km / h. But in the summer of 2016, batteries with a capacity of 60 kWh were installed on the model, plus the power unit itself and its control unit were slightly modernized.
As a result, the travel reserve of BYD Denza 2021 increased from 300 to 400 kilometers, which is quite good. The company itself emphasizes that, according to studies, most Chinese families cover about 50 – 80 kilometers per day, so it is enough to recharge the batteries only 1-2 times a week.
The manufacturer notes that in the course of fine-tuning tests, several Denza electric vehicles covered more than 1.2 million kilometers throughout China in 18 months, and twenty cars were crashed during crash tests. As a result, the serial version of the model managed to earn the maximum five stars in the C-NCAP safety rating (analogous to the European EuroNCAP).
Sales of the electric car started in September 2014, the price of the new Denza in China starts at 369,000 yuan (about 43,000 euros). At the same time, the basic equipment includes a leather interior, a multimedia system with an 8-inch touchscreen and 18-inch alloy wheels. And the top-end Executive version boasts adaptive xenon optics, navigation and a Harman Kardon audio system.
