The American company Faraday Future presented its first model at the CES 2017 consumer electronics exhibition – the FF 91 electric crossover. On the market, the novelty should impose competition on the Tesla Model X.
Externally, Faraday Future FF 91 looks more like a minivan with panoramic windows and a slightly sloping roof. The electric car is also distinguished by narrow diode lighting technology for the entire width of the body, rather large air intakes in the bumpers, the absence of door handles and mirrors with rear-view cameras.
The model is based on a modular chassis of our own design, while the equipment includes a fully steered chassis and an adaptive suspension. The overall length of the Faraday Future FF91 is 5,200 mm, the wheelbase is 3,600, the width is 2,280, and the height is 1,590.
Faraday Future specialists paid great attention to the aerodynamics of their crossover. For this, the model was equipped with special 22-inch wheels that can change the spoke pattern to improve aerodynamics at high speeds. As a result, the FF91 has a drag coefficient of 0.25.
The novelty is driven by four electric motors, the total power of which is 1,050 hp. and 1,800 Nm. With such a technical “stuffing” the electric car is capable of accelerating from zero to a hundred in 2.39 seconds, but the maximum speed is not specified.
The engines are powered by a set of lithium-ion batteries, developed by the company’s specialists in conjunction with LG Chem. The battery capacity is 130 kWh. When fully charged, the electric crossover can travel up to 700 km.
The company promises that 110- and 240-volt home chargers with 1.5, 10 or 15 kilowatts will be available for the Faraday Future FF91. When using the top-end option, it will take 4.5 hours to fully recharge the batteries. In addition, the electric car can be recharged at any of the existing gas stations.
The crossover received an advanced autopilot system, which uses more sensors than Tesla models. So, the car is equipped with 10 cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, 13 radars and one optical rangefinder LIDAR, which drives out from under the hood during operation.
These devices serve as the “eyes and ears” of the car, allowing it to recognize the owner by sight, park on its own, and then return to the driver from the parking space. The company’s specialists note that cameras on the middle pillars are also capable of recognizing emotions on a person’s face, after which this information can be used by electronics to optimize the audio system settings or to activate one or another chair massage program.
Other features of the Faraday Future FF 91 include Internet access, a panoramic glass roof that can be dimmed by pressing a special button, special chairs with “zero gravity”, as well as rear seats, the backs of which can recline back at an angle of up to 60 degrees.
Serial production of the crossover will be set up at its own Faraday Future plant in Nevada. The first 300 examples of the model will have a special body paint and an exclusive interior trim, while deliveries to customers will begin in 2018.
On the official website of the manufacturer, it is already possible to pre-order the FF91, leaving an advance payment of $ 5,000, but the full cost of the electric car has not been disclosed. According to rumors, the off-road vehicle will cost approximately $ 150,000 – $ 200,000.
