Someone prefers to save free money for a rainy day, someone spends it on all sorts of entertainment and travel. But Andrey from the city of Grodno (Belarus) spends free finances, energy and time in his ZAZ-968M.
Ever since childhood, Andrei has always been surprised that everyone makes fun of this car. After all, it is simple, reliable, unpretentious and passable. Absolutely everything is very easy to repair, literally on the knee – some pluses. So our hero decided that he would definitely buy such a car when he grows up …
So the young man has been visited by 7 Cossacks in his entire life. Now there are two, the main one and the donor. The main car is Andrey’s real hobby. By the way, it has a completely stock design and is capable of going through MOT itself, which it does regularly every year.
True, for this, it is nevertheless necessary to temporarily return the standard wheels, change the glass with stickers to the usual ones, remove the stickers from the body, remove the “kenguryatnik” and change the exhaust to the factory one. For all this, a donor is required.
In total, about $ 3,000 was invested in the revision of the Zaporozhets. For example, 17 ″ wheels fitted with stock hubs, along with custom-made spacers, cost $ 400. Exhaust, also custom made – another 80 bucks.
Seats (front from Opel Kadett, rear from Honda Civic) – only $ 25. Another 200 “green” ones were spent on additional headlights, and the installation of protective arcs cost $ 350. About $ 50 more was spent on special stickers.
A lot of money (550 dollars) was spent on tidying up the body, even taking into account that Andrei did some of the work himself. This amount included soundproofing of doors, fenders and rear panels, welding work, putty, as well as a special gradient painting: the front of the car is a tone lighter than the back.
The engine on the Zaporozhets remained standard. Only a more powerful generator was installed to pull a decent ALPINE audio system, on which Andrey spent 1300 dollars. Many (especially Andrei’s wife) were wary of investing that kind of money in a car worth $ 70.
However, our hero replies to this that ZAZ for him is a car for the soul, a dream that he wanted to build from start to finish. And Andrey is quite happy with his car. Moreover, for family trips in the garage, the Audi A6 is always waiting for him.
Andrei’s plans include a visit to the big congress of USSR cars, and then he is going to tackle a new project – even cooler and more ambitious. And, of course, it will also be ZAZ.
