The second generation Ford GT supercar was presented at the Detroit Auto Show two thousand fifteen, and we were faced with a car that was almost ready for release. The car went into production in this form, and the assembly of the first copies for sale began at the end of the sixteenth.
The launch of the 2018-2019 Ford GT series (photo and price) in a new body was decided to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Ford’s victory in the 24-hour Le Mans marathon. In 1966, three classic GT40 Mk IIs took the entire podium in a 24-hour race.
The new supercar looks great. The car has retained its recognizable features, while it has become noticeably more modern and aggressive in appearance. The head optics and taillights have got LEDs, the doors now open upwards, and sharp edges have replaced the smooth outlines.
The interior of the new 2018-2019 Ford GT is equipped with sport bucket seats with developed lateral support, a fully digital instrument panel, a racing steering wheel with many buttons, and the center console houses a 3rd generation SYNC multimedia system LCD.
When designing the Ford GT II, the manufacturer used lightweight, high-strength materials to achieve the lowest possible vehicle weight. So, the roll cage is made of carbon fiber, the front and rear subframes are aluminum, and the body panels are made of carbon.
The new Ford GT 2 has become noticeably more technological than the previous one. For example, it uses active aerodynamics with a retractable rear wing and Brembo carbon ceramic brakes in a circle. And the high-performance 20-inch Michelin Super Sport Cup 2 tires have been designed specifically for this model. At the same time, it is possible that the supercar can receive fully carbon discs with a central mount.
The previous 5.4-liter “eight” (550 hp, 677 Nm) was replaced by a new 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost family with a return of 655 “horses” and 745 Nm of torque. The engine is located in the base and is paired with a 7-band robotic transmission with two clutches, providing almost instant gear changes.
The maximum speed of the new Ford GT model weighing 1,360 kg reaches 347 km / h, the acceleration time to hundreds has not yet been specified. Thus, in terms of its dynamic characteristics, the supercar turned out to be the fastest production car of the manufacturer in its entire history.
The company notes that the 5.05-kilometer track Calabogie Motorsports Park in Canada, the coupe overcomes in 2 minutes and 9.8 seconds, which is 3.1 seconds faster than the Ferrari 458 Speciale and by a second surpasses the result of the McLaren 675LT.
In addition, the supercar has five operating modes for the control electronics: standard, sports, track, for driving on a wet road and for reaching maximum speed. The latter provides for special settings of aerodynamic elements in order to reduce drag and activate the track parameters of the suspension.
Options and prices
In total, it was planned to build only 1,000 copies of the Ford GT 2, while the annual circulation was limited to 250 units. The price of the new supercar exceeds $ 400,000, which is comparable to the European cost of the Lamborghini Aventador. Note that the predecessor was produced in the amount of 4,038 cars.
It is noteworthy that the company put forward a number of conditions for potential buyers of the model, but this did not stop those who wish. As of May 2016, the manufacturer registered more than 6,500 applications for the purchase of the model, of which only 500 were approved, and five hundred is the quota for the production of cars for the next two years.
In October two thousand and eighteenth, it became known that the company decided to increase the circulation of the coupe to 1,350 units, so that the production of cars will continue until 2022.
