At the end of October, the Koreans unveiled the exterior and interior of the new 2021 Genesis GV70, the second crossover in Hyundai’s premium brand. Later, the technical details of the car became known, and the start of its sales in South Korea is scheduled for January twenty-first.
The new Genesis GV70 is a mid-size premium crossover, which in the manufacturer’s lineup has taken its place one step below the older GV80 presented earlier. The main competitors for the “seventy” will be the Audi Q5, BMW X3 / X4, as well as the Mercedes GLC / GLC Coupe.

The design of the car follows the current style of the brand called “Athletic Elegance” with the signature large pentagonal radiator grille and two-story lighting technology both front and rear. At the same time, the GV70 received heavily littered rear pillars with integrated triangular windows.
Also immediately presented was the Genesis GV70 Sport variant, which can be recognized by the more aggressive design of the bumpers, round exhaust pipes at the rear instead of rectangular ones, blackened decor instead of chrome, and special design of 21-inch wheels.
The interior of the new 2021 Genesis GV70 is distinguished by a wide oval insert on the dashboard, on the right side of which the climate control unit is located. The crossover also received an unusual two-spoke steering wheel (three-spoke on the “Sport” version), an electronic instrument panel, and a widescreen multimedia system.
The SUV is built on a rear-wheel drive platform (all-wheel drive is available for an extra charge) with a spring suspension in a circle. Optionally, you can order a version with adaptive shock absorbers, which change their stiffness based on data from the front camera scanning the road in front of the car.
The base engine for the Genesis GV70 is a new 2.2-liter turbo diesel with an aluminum block of cylinders, developing 201 hp. (441 Nm). It is followed by a 2.5-liter petrol turbo four with 304 hp. and 422 Nm of torque, and at the top of the range is a 3.5-liter turbo V6 for 380 “horses” (530 Nm). All are paired with an 8-band automatic.
The top version of the all-wheel drive with a front axle clutch is already in the base, while for the first two it comes at a surcharge, while the all-wheel drive Genesis GV70 4WD is equipped with the Multi Terrain Control system, which provides for several modes of driving electronics (mud, snow and sand). Plus, all versions can be supplemented with the “Sport” package, which includes a quick start system Launch Control and an electronically controlled rear differential.
The start of sales of the Genesis GV70 in Russia is scheduled for the autumn of the twenty-first, while the configuration and prices were announced back in August. The price of the model with an initial 2.2-liter turbodiesel with 199 hp. starts at 4,150,000 rubles, while the surcharge for a gasoline 249-horsepower turbo four is only 50,000 rubles. But a crossover with a top-end engine 3.5, which produces 379 “horses” will have to pay at least 5,850,000 rubles.
