For the Geneva Motor Show 2020, the Bavarians have prepared the BMW Concept i4, which is the harbinger of a full-fledged production model. The show car received a body painted in bronze “Frozen Light Copper” and blue dotted inserts around the circle.
The conceptual four-door has huge “nostrils” of the radiator grille and narrow head optics. Another distinctive feature of the prototype was the special wheels, the design of which allows to achieve a noticeable reduction in aerodynamic drag.
The concept’s narrow headlights are L-shaped, and the rear bumper has vertical slots on the sides. Plus, at the stern, it is worth noting a rear diffuser with vertical fins, designed to make the car look more sporty.
The interior of the BMW Concept i4 is made in a futuristic style, but it makes it clear what can be expected from the upcoming production version. Key elements of the cabin are the curved displays for the digital instrumentation and infotainment system, housed in a free-standing dashboard. They have a special sun protection coating and remain well readable even in clear weather.
The electric sedan’s cab provides four seats with separate seats in the second row. It is predominantly finished in light-colored fabric and leather with gold-bronze accents seen on the steering wheel, doors and dash. The iDrive joystick and seat adjustment buttons are designed to add premium features to the interior.
The concept received a fifth-generation electric drive eDrive. This means that the car is driven by an electric motor with a power of 530 hp, which receives energy from a traction battery with a capacity of about 80 kWh. Thanks to the latest Concept, the i4 can travel up to 600 km without recharging (WLTP cycle).
It is interesting that while driving, the electric “filling” pleases passengers and those around them with the pleasant sound of the BMW IconicSounds Electric system. The eminent composer Hans Zimmer had a hand in tuning the latter, while the sound of the complex changes depending on the activated driving mode, of which there are three: Core, Sport and Efficient.
The commercial version of the BMW i4 will debut on the market in two thousand twenty-first. The electric sedan will be produced at the main plant of the Bavarian brand in Munich, in the modernization of which the company is investing about 200 million euros. Prices for the model will be announced closer to its release date.
