Tuning, like repairs, cannot be stopped either – it can only be stopped. An illustrative example of this thesis is Emil from Astrakhan. The guy has been pumping his VAZ-2108 for almost 15 years.
The beautiful “figure eight” produced in 1993, with a low torpedo, a 1.1 engine and a “short wing”, was presented to Emil for his 18th birthday. Since then, a process of continuous improvements began, during which the project has repeatedly changed its image and concept.
For example, an export motor of 54 hp. over time, it turned into a fiery 1.7 liter 16-valve “heart” with a T3T4 turbine blowing 1.7 bar. The estimated power of such a unit is about 350 hp, although precise measurements were not carried out – there are no suitable dynos in Astrakhan.
By the way, before the installation of the turbine, Emil performed quite well in amateur racing competitions. However, after the installation of the turbo kit, the “eight” fell into the class of completely insane “cramps”, with which it became meaningless to compete. Then the concept of the project focused on preparing for car exhibitions.
The car was originally white, but with the purchase of eye-popping 18-inch Sakura Wheels rims with reddish accents, the underside of the car was also covered with a matching film.
The body kit here is its own, the author’s, although it is made on the basis of the popular Miller Pilot kit. Also installed is a beautiful “CC High” rear spoiler. The carbon-metal hood in the style of rally Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Evo is also beautiful.
Both the front optics (bi-xenon headlights) and the rear optics (it is LED) are made by hand. Other interesting features are body shaving, as well as a mono-wiper in the manner of a Mercedes in the 124th body.
Of course, the interior has also been completely rebuilt. The low torpedo gave way to a Europanel covered in Alcantara. The stock steering wheel has been replaced with the most beautiful Prototipo model from Momo, and Extreme buckets from UNP are installed instead of the native seats. The rear seats are completely removed – they were replaced by an eight-point roll cage.
Of the non-trivial things in this “eight”, there is a panoramic roof, with an area of almost the entire ceiling, as well as ordinary-looking, but very interesting in design doors. The fact is that they are frameless, in the manner of Subaru models of the nineties and zero years.
As befits a car for exhibitions, this VAZ-2108 has a very decent audio system: an Alpine X8 “head”, a 600-watt Kixx amplifier, a set of multi-frequency speakers, and a SoundStrream Picasso 1500 monoblock. something that hasn’t changed in one way or another.
