It’s no secret that Lexus is hatching plans to launch a compact crossover, which in the manufacturer’s lineup will take place one step below the RX model. Earlier it was suggested that the new product could be called Lexus NX, and it will be based on the platform from the Toyota RAV4 SUV.
And so, on the eve of the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, photos of the Lexus LF-NX concept crossover appeared on the network, which is the harbinger of the future model. True, it is too early to judge how much the production version of the car will be similar to the shown prototype.
The Lexus LF-NX Concept is designed in line with the company’s current L-finesse corporate identity. But the exterior of the SUV turned out to be much more aggressive in comparison with the models already produced now.
In addition to sharp edges in the exterior design of the concept, narrow lighting technology and an hourglass-shaped radiator grill, the crossover also stands out with large rims and massive sidewalls with muscular fenders.
According to company representatives, they decided to test the public reaction to the design of the Lexus LF-NX, and if it turns out to be positive, then in a couple of years we will see similar cars on the roads. By the way, this is what happened with the Lexus IS 3 sedan. In addition, the incredibly stylish Range Rover Evoque is in great demand around the world, and the future NX is just aiming to compete with it.
In terms of technology, the front-wheel drive Lexus LF-NX Concept is powered by a hybrid power plant from the ES 300h sedan, which includes a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine, an electric motor and an automatic transmission. But they promise to equip the serial Lexus NX, including with all-wheel drive.
Lexus LF-NX Turbo
For the Tokyo 2013 home auto show, the Japanese manufacturer has prepared a new modification of the Lexus LF-NX concept, which has received the Turbo prefix to the name. Its key difference from the prototype shown in Frankfurt was a different power plant.
The Lexus LF-NX Turbo is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol turbo engine instead of the hybrid setup previously. True, the company has not yet disclosed the technical details of this ICE.
In addition, the turbocharged version of the Lexus LF-NH concept got a front splitter, which made the car’s appearance even more aggressive, as well as a modified design of the rims. The interior of the model has been upgraded with a multimedia system, which is equipped with a touchscreen display and touchpad, as on the new Lexus RC coupe.
Later it became known that the Japanese will show the serial version of the SUV already at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2014, but during the exhibition, the company representatives called a different date – the Lexus NX ready for production will be shown on April 20 at the Beijing Motor Show.
