In August twenty-first, Nissan unveiled the new generation Z sports car. From now on, only the letter “Z” will be used to designate the model – the developers have abandoned the numerical index. This means that the two-door will be sold simply as “Nissan Z” in the main markets, while in Japan it will retain the traditional name “Nissan Fairlady Z”.
A Japanese team of specialists headed by chief designer Alfons Albaisa was responsible for the appearance of the new model. With their submission, the coupe received a rather traditional look, in which there are a number of references to the very first generation of the model – the 240Z.
Note that the design of a serial sports car did not come as a surprise to anyone: for the first time the Japanese demonstrated it back in the twentieth year at the Nissan Z Proto show car, and on the way to the series the car has not changed a bit.
Nissan Z 2022 in the new body has the same teardrop-shaped headlights and rectangular air intake as the aforementioned classic model. The silhouette of the body is also reminiscent of the latter, while the stern is made in the style of the 300ZX, produced in the 1990s. Note that the base car is equipped with 18-inch wheels with Yokohama Advan Sport tires.
In the compartment of the coupe, retro solutions were also not without, although here they are no longer so pronounced. Only a steering wheel with a small hub, air vents in the doors (like on the 300ZX) and three subdials on the top of the dashboard (like on the 240Z) remind of previous generations in the interior of the new items.
At the same time, the Nissan Z has a 12.3-inch display of a virtual device with three display modes, as well as multimedia with a screen of 8.0 or 9.0 inches (depending on the configuration).
The Nissan Z Coupe continues to be based on the rear-wheel drive FM platform on which its predecessor, the 370Z, was built. The overall length of the compartment is 4,379 mm (+ 114), width – 1,844, height – 1,316, the distance between the axles remains the same – 2,550 millimeters.
The Japanese sports car is powered by a new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6. We are talking about the VR30DDTT engine, which is installed on Infiniti models. It replaced the former 3.7-liter naturally aspirated V6 with 337 hp. (365 Nm).
The new unit produces 405 forces and 475 Nm of torque, available in the range from 1,600 to 5,600 rpm. Interestingly, to reduce turbolag, it is equipped with compact low-inertia superchargers.
The base for the Nissan Zed is a six-speed manual, and the Japanese have retained the traditional mechanical handbrake. At the same time, a two-door can be ordered with a nine-speed Jatco automatic with paddle shifters. On the two-pedal version, when Sport mode is activated, the audio system amplifies the sound of the engine through the speakers.
The company has not yet spread about the dynamic characteristics of the new items, but it is known that the acceleration time from 0-100 km / h has been reduced by 15%. In other words, the car should change the first hundred in less than 5.0 seconds.
And although the Nissan Z retained the same chassis, it still could not do without modifications. The company ditched the power steering in favor of the electric power steering. The front double wishbone suspension received a different geometry and increased castor, and monotube shock absorbers were installed on the wheels “in a circle”.
In turn, the stretching amplifier between the struts, located directly above the engine, is now already in the base. Due to these changes, the modified chassis allows developing 13% more lateral acceleration in corners than on its predecessor.
Note that the performance version has already been announced for the model, which includes 19-inch wheels with Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires, a stiffer suspension, a disc-locked differential, a carbon fiber propeller shaft and a spoiler at the stern.
It is known that the Nissan Z Performance with automatic transmission has launch control, while the version with a manual transmission is equipped with a similar Launch Assist system, which provides the most efficient start from a place.
Of the other features of the special version, it is worth noting more powerful brakes with four and two-piston calipers in front and at the rear (in the base, the coupe is content with two- and single-piston mechanisms, respectively).
Sales of the new Nissan Z in Japan will start in winter 2021, and the coupe will appear in the US in the spring of the twenty-second. Interestingly, at the start of American sales, the sports car can be ordered in a limited edition Proto Spec (240 units), that is, with a design in the style of the aforementioned show car (with a yellow body, catchy decor and only with a manual transmission).
While the company does not advertise information about the cost of the model in the new body. Probably, the price list will be published in the near future, while there is no need to wait for a sports car in Russia.
