The McLaren 675 LT supercar debuted at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, a seriously redesigned version of the 650S coupe. The digital index in the name of the new model stands for engine power, and the letters “LT” stand for Long Tail, which was the name of the 1997 McLaren F1 GTR racing car.
The new McLaren 675 LT is equipped with a 3.8-liter V8 twin-turbo engine, the output of which has been increased from 650 to 675 “horses”. Peak torque reaches 700 Nm, but in first gear it is limited to 600 Nm. Traction is transmitted to the wheels via a 7-band robotic transmission with two clutches.
It would seem that the increase in power was only 25 hp, but the manufacturer specifies that this required changing more than half of the elements of the power unit. There were so many changes that the engine even received a new index – M838TL.
Key engine upgrades for the McLaren 675 Long Tail include new turbochargers, cylinder heads, crankshaft, lightweight connecting rods, fuel pump and exhaust manifolds. In addition, the supercar received a titanium exhaust system.
In the design of the McLaren 675 LT, lightweight materials have found wider application, which made it possible to reduce the weight of the car by 100 kg (up to 1,230). And the updated body kit generates 40% more downforce compared to the 650S. This is accomplished by a front splitter, side skirts, a diffuser and a large retractable “Longtail” rear wing that can also act as an air brake.
Having become more powerful and lighter, the new McLaren 675LT also improved its dynamic performance. Now the track supercar, which is also certified for public roads, picks up a hundred from a standstill in 2.9 seconds (-0.1), and accelerates from 0 to 200 km / h in 7.9 seconds. (that’s 0.4 s faster than the new Ferrari 488 GTB). The maximum speed of the model reaches 330 km / h.
Outside, the 675LT can be distinguished from the 650S by different bumpers, additional air intakes on the sidewalls, a redesigned stern with two round exhaust pipes and another engine compartment cover, as well as by the unique design of the rims. The interior of the supercar is equipped with racing seats and additional color schemes in the trim.
Acceptance of orders for the new McLaren 675 Long Tail is already open – in the UK they ask for it from £ 259,500, and the first customers will be able to receive their cars in July 2015. In total, 500 copies of the model will be released, and all of them were sold out on pre-orders in just two months, since in early May the company stopped accepting orders for the coupe.
