A couple of weeks before the opening of the Geneva Motor Show, the Germans presented a new model of the second generation Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe 2020-2021, which joined the “charged” coupe-like crossovers from other German manufacturers in the face of the Audi RS Q8 and BMW X6 M (F96).
It is easy to distinguish the modification from the AMG from the usual GLE Coupe by the aggressive look of the head optics, the enlarged air intakes of the front bumper, the radiator grille dotted with vertical rods and more solid exhaust pipes. Plus, such a car relies on large alloy wheels with a diameter of 21 or 22 inches.

Also available for the new item is the “AMG Night” package, which provides numerous black accents in the exterior design, tinted windows and high-gloss black tailpipes of the exhaust system. Inside, the new Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe 2021 is equipped with the standard MBUX multimedia system, but the latter received an AMG menu and advanced functionality.
The 2020 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 Coupe is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, which is paired with a nine-speed AMG Speedshift TCT 9G automatic with a torque converter. In the presence of a 4Matic + all-wheel drive transmission system with permanent rear-wheel drive and a multi-plate clutch for connecting the front axle.
The default performance of this engine reaches 571 hp. and 750 Nm, available in the range from 2,250 to 5,000 rpm, and on the top version of the GLE 63 S Coupe, the unit produces 612 forces, and the maximum torque (850 Nm) is available here from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm.
Acceleration from zero to 100 km / h takes 4.0 seconds, and the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km / h (when ordering the optional AMG Driver’s package – to 280 km / h). In turn, the GLE 63 S Coupe takes the first hundred after 3.8 seconds. after the start, and the “electronic collar” is immediately weakened to 280 kilometers per hour.
Note also that the “charged” coupe-like crossover received a hybrid EQ Boost system. Located on the tail of the crankshaft, the starter-generator is powered by a 48-volt mains supply, producing 22 hp. and 250 Nm. This electric motor helps the internal combustion engine in the first seconds of acceleration, and also provides a quick start of the engine as part of the “start-stop” system.
The model’s equipment list includes the AMG Ride Control + air suspension, which has several operation presets (Normal, Sport, Sport +, Race, Trail and Sand) and is able to automatically adjust the ground clearance, depending on the vehicle load level.
For a surcharge, you can order the AMG Active Ride Control suspension, which additionally allows you to minimize roll. The sports SUV has six-piston brakes with 400mm discs at the front, and single-piston ones with 370mm discs at the rear (carbon-ceramic mechanisms are optional).
