The track version of the Mercedes-AMG GT supercar premiered at the Goodwood Festival of Speed ​​two thousand sixteen. The novelty, in the name of which the letter R was added, became the fastest and most powerful version of the model.

The new Mercedes-AMG GT R 2019 (photo and price) is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine, the output of which has been increased to 585 hp. (+ 75 “horses” compared to the S-version). The maximum torque of 700 Nm is available from 1,900 to 5,500 rpm.

The Germans managed to achieve an increase in engine performance by installing new turbines and a lighter dual-mass flywheel, as well as by revising the exhaust valves, improving cooling and flashing the control electronics.

In addition, the company has worked on lightening the structure of the car, for which they replaced the roof and front fenders with carbon-fiber counterparts. As a result, the AMG-GT R weighs 1,555 kg, which is 15 kilos lighter than the S version.

From zero to hundreds, the Mercedes-AMG GT R accelerates in 3.6 seconds, which is 0.2 seconds. faster than 510-strong modification. The supercar’s top speed reaches 318 km / h. In urban mode, the coupe consumes about 15 liters per 100 kilometers, and on the highway – 9.2 liters. When driving in a combined cycle, the declared fuel consumption is 11.4 liters.

The engine of the new Mercedes-AMG GT R works in conjunction with a seven-speed robot with two clutches. The Germans slightly modified the transmission, changing its gear ratios, improving cooling and optimizing the control program. In addition, the box now features a “Race” racing mode.

The most powerful AMG GT has received improved aerodynamics. In particular, the manufacturer has installed a special two-kilogram carbon fiber element under the body in front of the engine compartment, which moves down in Race mode and at speeds above 80 km / h, thereby changing the distribution of air flows.

In addition, Mercedes-AMG specialists installed a wing, the angle of attack of which can be adjusted manually, as well as special vertical strips in the lower part of the front end. The latter are able to open and close in a second, which at high speeds helps to reduce lift and provides additional cooling.

Note that the track Mercedes-AMG GT R 2018-2019 became the first model of the brand with a fully-controlled chassis. With the help of two electromechanical actuators, the convergence angle can be changed up to 1.5 degrees. As a result, at speeds above 100 km / h, the rear wheels of the supercar turn in the same direction as the front wheels, and at low speeds – in the opposite direction.

A new regulator has appeared on the center console in the supercar’s cabin, with which you can set certain settings for traction control. In total, the Germans provided for 9 different modes. The first one is optimized for driving on slippery roads, and the last ninth one allows maximum rear wheel slip. Traction control can be disabled if desired.

Other features of the new Mercedes-AMG GT R include a track-adapted suspension, a lighter propeller shaft, an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential, a titanium exhaust system with volume control and carbon-ceramic brakes with 402 mm discs at the front and 360 millimeter behind.

An expert from the German edition of Sport Auto drove a circle along the Nürburgring Northern loop in the new AMG GT R in 7 minutes 10.92 seconds, which was the best indicator among all production Mercedes cars on this track.

For the Geneva Motor Show 2019, the Germans have prepared a Mercedes-AMG GT R Roadster with a folding three-layer roof. From a technical point of view, such a modification completely repeats the original coupe, except that the fixed rear wing here has a different angle of attack, adjusted for a different aerodynamics of the model.

The mass of the roadster has increased to 1,635 kg (+ 80), but this has practically no effect on the dynamics. The roadster goes up to a hundred in the same 3.6 seconds, and the maximum speed has decreased by only 1 km / h – to 317 kilometers per hour. In total, the company is going to release only 750 of these machines, so the offer is very exclusive.

The coupe sports 19-inch wheels at the front and 20-inch wheels at the back. The wheels of larger diameter were installed by widening the front and rear tracks, as a result of which the car became wider by 46 mm at the front and 57 mm at the rear. The base tires are 325mm Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

In Europe, accepting orders for the track Mercedes-AMG GT R started on November 21, 2016, and the first deliveries of cars to customers fell on March 1917. The price of the car in Germany starts at 165,410 euros, which is about 40,000 less than the 580-horsepower coupe Porsche 911 Turbo S. The model appeared in Russia in the summer – the minimum price today is from 13,020,000 rubles.
