Mercedes-amg Models Set Nürburgring Record Holders In Two Different Classes

In 1918, the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ covered the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a record 6 minutes and 44.97 seconds, now surpassed. The new record holder was the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, presented in the summer of two thousand and twentieth.

It is known that the race took place on November 4, 2020 at an air temperature of plus seven degrees. The extreme coupe is driven by German racer Maro Engel, who competes for the AMG factory team in the GT3 class.

Driving the last two-door car, she drove the legendary Nürburgring in 6 minutes and 43.616 seconds, surpassing the previous record by just 1.35 seconds. Note that the total length of the track is 20.6 kilometers.

Mercedes-AMG is proud of the fact that the record was set on an ordinary production car, that is, no modifications were made to the coupe design. As a reminder, the AMG GT Black Series coupe comes from the factory with a 4.0-liter V8 with 730 hp. and 800 Nm, which works in conjunction with a seven-band robot.

The supercar relies on lightweight forged wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R MO tires, carbon ceramic brakes and electronically controlled shock absorbers. At the same time, the record-breaking car was additionally equipped with a safety half-frame, which is part of the AMG Track package available for an additional charge.

To drive along the Nordschleife on the two-door, the maximum camber allowed by the factory settings was set, namely 3.8 degrees in front and 3.0 degrees in the rear. It is noteworthy that at the same time the Germans also staked out a record in the class of executive cars: the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S drove the Nürburgring in 7 minutes and 27.8 seconds, improving the time of the updated Porsche Panamera.

The latter set a record in August 2020 (7 minutes and 29.81 seconds), beating the time of the same Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S (7 minutes and 30.11 seconds), set back in two thousand and eighteenth. The specialists of Mercedes-AMG were able to regain the first place by reconfiguring the elastokinematics of the suspension and a number of other modifications, which they do not cover.

The record time was shown by a car with a 4Matic + all-wheel drive transmission, an all-wheel steering chassis and an electronically controlled rear differential. A special aerodynamic body kit was also installed on the car, and the wheels were “shod” in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.
