At the end of December 2019, Mercedes-Benz introduced an electric version of the Sprinter van. The eco-friendly modification is called eSprinter. Outwardly, it is no different from the usual version of the model, although the demonstration copy of the electric car received a special body color with a blue bottom and a light gray top.
The electric Mercedes-Benz eSprinter 2020 reaches a length of 5,932 mm. In terms of capacity, the van is in no way inferior to the conventional diesel version of the car, so the volume of the cargo compartment is still the same 10.5 cubic meters.
The electric car has the same technical stuffing as the utility van eVito. This means that the machine is driven by a 114 hp electric motor mounted on the front axle. (295 Nm). The latter receives power for its work from a traction battery, which the Germans placed under the floor.
Depending on the selected configuration, this battery can be 41 or 55 kWh. In the first case, the maximum carrying capacity of the model is 1,040 kg, and in the second – already 900 kg. The total mass of the van is 3,500 kg.
It is reported that when fully loaded, an electric Mercedes eSprinter with a less capacious battery can travel up to 115 km without recharging, and with a more capacious one – up to 168 km. At the same time, the van can be accelerated up to 120 km / h, although, if the client wishes, the Germans can limit the speed of the car to 80 or 100 km / h, which will contribute to additional energy savings.
To achieve maximum range, the driver can use one of four regenerative braking modes, as well as reduce the power of the air conditioning system. At the same time, the automaker also emphasizes that using a quick charger, the van battery can be recharged from 0 to 80% in just half an hour.
The cost of Mercedes eSprinter in the company has not yet been advertised, but at the same time it is noted that two short versions of the model with a high roof and front-wheel drive will first appear on sale. In the future, the list of modifications will be expanded.
Interestingly, the specialists of the Mercedes commercial division have developed a special eVAN Ready application. It is designed to help customers determine how an electric van is suitable for their needs. This program analyzes all the trips of a potential buyer, and then gives an answer whether he can save money by choosing the “green” eSprinter and eVito.
