Moved From Solaris To The New Kia K5: I Share My First Impressions

Within five days after the purchase in the salon of an authorized dealer, I drove 350 km. I will share my first impressions of the new KIA K5. I can only compare with Hyundai Solaris and I can say that KIA is head and shoulders above Solaris in almost all respects.

I took the K5 sedan in the corporate blue color, outwardly the enamel seems very delicate, I have not yet been washed, but there are fears that the slightest scratch will be visible. The interior is quite comfortable – I will not say that the ergonomics are verified, but it is convenient to reach all the buttons. The driver’s seat is adjustable in 5 positions, a comfortable seat, but breakdowns from a rigid suspension negate all comfort.

There is a lot of equipment in the K5, I checked all the assistants, intelligent cruise, lane keeping, automatic light – everything works fine. I did not like the sound in the media system – I expected much more from Bose, there are no surround bass. The subwoofer is not up to the task.

On the first day I found out that the rear shelf was rattling (I had not yet left the dealer), the officials gave the answer – “a feature of the complete set”, I will screw it on myself, the bounce in the cabin against the background of excellent sound insulation is not impressive.

In general, the media is set up adequately. I will change the navigation, the standard “volume” in practice turned out to be disgusting. All settings are performed on the ShGU, it responds very quickly. Adequate head optics, the main beam illuminates well, does not blind oncoming people, the beam goes 80 meters.

The suspension on the new KIA K5 is stiff – all blogger reviewers are right. I still cannot understand whether the R18 wheels or the design feature of the Russian adaptation may be to blame, but all the irregularities of the road are immediately given to the chair.

I drove the first 300 km in the “Comfort” mode, on the concrete road I “gave gas”. Clocked up to 140 km / h. At this speed, the KIA is more than confident, it listens to the steering wheel perfectly, there is no need to steer in a straight line, the handling is excellent. The engine shows adequate consumption – 7 liters were stable on concrete, about 6.4 liters on the highway, and 8.3 liters in Moscow traffic jams.

The motor runs quietly at speed, gives good acceleration, at a speed of 120 km / h, the power reserve for fast overtaking is felt. At idle, the engine (it seems to me) works very loudly. In general, I am very pleased with the car, Solaris was good at one thing – more headroom, otherwise the KIA surpasses Hyundai in dynamics, power, and controllability.
