At the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the world premiere of the Polestar 2 electric five-door liftback will take place, which in the market should compete with the American Tesla Model 3.
In terms of design, the new Polestar 2 closely follows the Volvo Concept 40.2 show car. However, certain design adjustments did take place. In particular, the production car received a different shape of bumpers, a new bonnet, as well as different taillights and a modified opening of the fifth door.
Plus, the “two” in the base can boast of the presence of frameless exterior mirrors, a backlit logo and matrix LED headlights, although for the US and Canadian markets the latter will be replaced by simpler passive headlights with LED blocks. This decision is due to the peculiarities of local legislation.
Inside the cabin, attention is drawn to the minimalist design of the dashboard with the 11.0-inch vertical display of the Android-based multimedia system, which can be connected remotely via a dedicated smartphone app. Also, the interior of the Swedish electric car has a virtual tidy and a panoramic roof.
The Polestar 2 liftback 2019-2020 is built on a modular CMA platform with multi-link rear suspension. The overall length of the model is 4,607 mm, the wheelbase is 2,735, the width is 1,800, and the height is 1,478. The traction battery of the electric vehicle is located under the floor and is integrated into the power structure of the body.
The battery capacity is 78 kWh, which provides a cruising range of 500 km (according to the WLTP cycle), while for the Celestial Empire the car will be equipped with a 72 kWh battery. Polestar 2 has two electric motors at once, the total output of which reaches 408 hp. and 660 Nm. According to the developers, with such a “filling” the liftback is capable of shooting from zero to hundreds in less than 5.0 seconds.

The Performance package is offered as an option for the model. It includes 20-inch wheels, Ohlins shock absorbers and Brembo brakes. You can distinguish a car with such a package by the golden brake calipers and the seat belts painted in the same color.
The Polestar 2 electric liftback will be produced in China, and mass production will begin only in early 2020. But you can pre-order the car right now. Prices for the electric car start at 39,900 euros, while the limited edition “Launch Edition” starts at € 59,900 – this will only be produced for the first 12 months.
The novelty will be the first mass model of the Swedish sub-brand, but at first it will be sold only in Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, Canada, China, the Netherlands, Norway, USA and Sweden. Then they plan to expand the geography of sales, but the appearance of a car in Russia is unlikely.
