Porsche Taycan Turbo 2020 – photo and price, characteristics of the new model Porsche Taycan Turbo S

The new Porsche Taycan, the first production electric vehicle from the German company, will debut at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. The manufacturer decided to bring to the market two of the most powerful modifications at once, which received the designations Turbo and Turbo S – as on the company’s gasoline cars.

Outside, the new Porsche Taikan 2020 turned out to be in many ways already familiar – the design of the electric car almost completely repeats the design of the Mission E concept of four years ago, while the appearance itself is as close as possible to the Panamera, which is similar in size.

There is the same sloping roof and small windows in the rear pillars, but if the Panamera is a liftback, then the Taikan is a sedan: the trunk lid rises without a rear window. A thin strip of rear brake light stretches across the entire width of the car, and under it flaunts the word “Porsche”, even lower – the name of the model.

The head optics on the Porsche Taycan are original – slightly recessed into the body and shining with four DRL sections. The doors on the model are frameless, and air intakes and hatches for connecting to chargers are registered in the front fenders. The sports car runs on 20 “rims, and the Turbo S versions are fitted with 21” wider tires.

Salon Taikan differs from other models of the manufacturer – inside the electric car was almost completely devoid of physical buttons. Before the driver’s eyes, there is a rather unusual curved fully digital dashboard on a 16.8-inch screen, and on its sides there are touch-sensitive buttons for controlling the light and choosing the driving modes (Range, Normal, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual).

The central 10.9 ″ display is responsible for multimedia (supports voice commands, responding to the phrase “Hey Porsche”), and for a surcharge, a similar screen can be ordered for the front passenger. The center console houses an 8.4-inch monitor for controlling the climate control system, with touch-sensitive buttons on it with vibration to confirm clicks. Below is a touchpad for handwriting input.

For Porsche Taikan 2020, a new platform called PPE (Premium Platform Electric) has been developed, which is designed for the construction of electric models and provides a traction battery integrated into the power structure of the floor. Later, the Audi e-tron GT electric car will be presented on a similar chassis.

At the same time, some elements from Panamera are used in the suspension of the model. The weight of the car is about 2,300 kg, of which the body only accounts for 170 kg, and its torsional rigidity is an impressive 42,000 Nm / deg. The power structure of the car is mostly made of steel, and the outer panels are almost all aluminum.

Thanks to well-thought-out aerodynamics, a flat bottom and active flaps in the front bumper, the drag coefficient on the Porsche Taycan is from 0.22 to 0.25, the weight distribution along the axles is close to ideal (49:51 in favor of the rear axle), and the center of gravity is at 420 mm (20 mm lower than on the 911 Coupé).

The basic equipment of the electric car includes a three-chamber air suspension (the default clearance is 130 mm, but at high speed the car “squats” by 22 mm, and when driving over irregularities on the contrary, the body can be forcibly raised by 20 mm), plus there is an active roll suppression system PDCC, while the Taycan Turbo S comes with steering wheels and carbon ceramic brakes.

The overall length of the electric sedan is 4,963 mm, the size of the wheelbase is 2,900, the width is 1,966, and the height is 1 381. At the same time, there are two trunks at once – the volume of the rear is 366 liters (folding the backs of the second row is not provided), the front is designed for 81 l.

Both versions of the model are equipped with a pair of transverse AC motors (one on the front axle, the other on the rear), and here they are synchronous – with permanent magnets. These are more expensive than asynchronous ones, but they are more compact and heat up less. The rear axle also has an electronically controlled differential lock.

In addition, if almost all modern electric cars are equipped with a single-stage transmission, then a two-stage gearbox is installed on the Porsche Taikan – the presence of a second (overdrive) gear is made to increase the maximum speed. A specially designed inverter for the car is responsible for converting the direct current of the battery into alternating current for motors and back in recuperation mode.

The traction lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 93.4 kWh in the Porsche Taikan 2020 was developed by LG Chem. It consists of 396 cells, combined into 33 modules and has a complex shape. The claimed battery life is 15 years, and 8 of them (or 160,000 km) are covered by the warranty.

The most important feature of this electric vehicle was the use of an 800-volt traction electrical system voltage (nominal – 723 V), while on most other “electric trains” the network runs at about 400 V. This not only made it possible to use a smaller wiring cross-section and reduce its weight, but much more important that the charging time of the batteries has been reduced by about half.

With a powerful 270 kW 800 volt DC charging station, the liquid-cooled battery can be recharged from 5 to 80% in just 23 minutes. Of course, the network of such “gas stations” is not too extensive yet, but the model provides all kinds of other recharging options, including connecting to the home power grid.

The Turbo version provides the power of the front electric motor at 218 hp. (300 Nm), while the rear develops 408 forces and 550 Nm of torque. Their total output reaches 625 “horses” and 850 Nm, and in the overboost mode (acting for 2.5 seconds) the peak power reaches 680 hp.

As a result, such an electric car needs 3.2 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h, it overcomes the second hundred in 9.8 seconds, and makes a quarter mile in 10.8 seconds. The maximum speed is limited to 260 km / h (in this case, the electric motors rustle at the maximum 16,000 rpm), while the power reserve (according to the WLTP cycle) on a full charge is declared at 450 kilometers.

The top version of the model is equipped with similar engines and the same 93.4 kWh battery, but it uses a more powerful inverter and other settings. As a result, the total output of the electric motors already reaches 761 hp. and 1050 Nm – note that all this traction is available from the moment you start.

From zero to hundred, the new Porsche Tycan Turbo S fires in 2.8 seconds, but the maximum speed is the same here. At the same time, the power reserve is slightly lower – 421 km, although in real conditions you should not count on such a mileage. But the manufacturer’s promise that the car can make 10 starts from zero to a hundred (and four starts up to 200 km / h) without loss of efficiency is quite possible.

What is the price

The start of sales of the Porsche Taycan in Russia is scheduled for September 2020, but you can pre-order now – the price of the Turbo version starts at 10,643,000 rubles, and a minimum of 12,943,000 rubles will have to be paid for the Turbo S. At the same time, not all dealers will have a car – while Moscow, St. Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, Krasnodar and Novosibirsk are on the list of cities. The company’s plan is to sell 100 cars by the end of the twentieth.

The release of the novelty was established on a separate production line in Zuffenhausen (where cars of the 911 family are assembled), while the company plans to sell 25,000 Taikans annually. In the future, it is expected that simpler versions will appear, as well as a variant in the station wagon.
