The French from Renault have declassified the updated flagship minivan Espace 5, and so far only the top version of the “Initiale Paris” has been presented. This is not at all accidental, since it is this performance of the model that accounts for the lion’s share of sales (more than 60%).
In the course of restyling, the new Renault Espace 2020 model year received spot adjustments to the design, while the main advantage of the Initiale Paris configuration is matrix LED headlights (for the first time on French cars).
The very same design of the front of the car has practically not changed – the developers only slightly adjusted the shape of the front bumper, decorating it with a chrome strip across the entire width. At the stern, the diode pattern of the lanterns has changed, and the rear bumper has received a more prominent protective strip along the bottom.
Plus, during the restyling, it was decided to put the car on 20-inch wheels of a new design. Salon Renault Espace 2020 in a new body has changed more significantly. The design of the “floating” center console has been revised: in the lower part of it there is now a closed curtain, under which there are two cup holders and a USB connector.
At the top of the panel is a 9.3-inch touchscreen of the “Easy Connect” multimedia system with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay interfaces. Plus, the minivan boasts a digital tidy with a 10.2-inch screen on which you can display 3D navigation maps.
It is interesting that all, without exception, the Renault Espace 2020 versions now have a large panoramic roof with an area of 2.8 square meters and an electric drive of the fifth door, while for an additional charge the car can be ordered in five or seven-seat versions.
The interior of the Renault Espace Initiale Paris is finished in nappa leather, and customers can choose the material in Black Titanium or Light Sand-Gray. The front seats of this version have double stitching, electric adjustment in 10 directions, as well as heating, ventilation and massage functions.
The side windows of the top-end configuration are now laminated, which is designed to provide a higher level of acoustic comfort, while the upgraded premium Bose audio system with 12 speakers is also designed to please passengers, which received five presets for sound tuning at once: Drive, Immersion, Lounge, Surround and Studio.
The line of power units of Renault Espace 2020 is represented by three engines: the car can be ordered with a 1.8-liter gasoline “turbo four”, familiar from the Alpine A110 and Megane RS models. On a minivan, it develops 225 hp. (300 Nm) when working with a seven-speed robot with two clutches. This option accelerates from zero to hundred in 7.9 seconds, consuming 8.0 liters per 100 km in mixed mode (WLTP cycle).
Plus, two two-liter diesel engines are offered for the model: the first of them produces 160 hp. and 360 Nm, and the second – 200 forces and 400 Nm of torque. These motors are equipped with a six-band robot with two clutches. With a less powerful diesel engine, Espace accelerates from 0-100 km / h in 10.5 seconds, and with a more powerful one in 9.1 seconds. Consumption in both cases is declared at 6.6 l / 100 km.
For a surcharge, the car can be ordered with the Renault 4Control all-wheel drive system, which comes in conjunction with adaptive shock absorbers and three driving electronics modes (Eco, Comfort and Sport). The minivan also received a second level autopilot capable of operating in the range from 0 to 160 km / h.
The latter includes a Stop & Go function, a parking aid, as well as a cross-traffic monitoring system and an emergency braking function with pedestrian detection. The start of European sales of Renault Espace is scheduled for spring 2020, prices will be announced later.
