After the first thousand kilometers, which I dashed through the streets of the capital, I can objectively assess my new acquisition of the Great Wall Hover H5. There was no difficulty in choosing a car at all – for this price it is the best crossover in the segment. After 1,000 kilometers, only one problem “got out” – the terminal is leaving the battery, but first things first.

Exterior

The appearance is stylish, moderately strict and from this very attractive. Everything is very practical: there are no unnecessary hinged panels, unnecessary decorative strips and decorations. We were embarrassed by the standard wiper blades – without hesitation, they replaced them with hybrid Denso with a 60 cm driver’s side grip. Immediately installed a washer system valve, took a Toyota one – it works great!

The configuration of the Great Wall Hover H5 provides a single 2.4 petrol unit (136 hp) and a manual transmission, which I personally think is more productive and reliable. From the first days, long transmissions and the miscalculation of Chinese engineers with gear ratios were not entirely familiar. At the third speed, you can go from 30 to 80 km per hour.

Gasoline consumption basically corresponds to the declared one – for the combined cycle it is within 10.5 liters, on the highway it is not much less. I am pleased with the complete unpretentiousness of the unit to the fuel class, I took both 92 and 95 – there is no difference at all. But the factory fluids will have to be changed – with the onset of cold weather, both the oil and the transmission began to thicken quickly.

Controllability

There are no questions at all about the quality of the suspension and the tuning of the shock absorbers: the ride is smooth, even. Pits and unevenness of the car passes quickly, without pecks, throws and jumps. But at high speeds, when shifting gears, a slight roll is felt.

The permeability was tested in snowdrifts and on sand. With a snow depth of about 40 cm, I did not notice any cross-country problems. The speed, of course, slightly reduced – and no slippage or burying.

Salon

The layout of the control unit did not cause any complaints. Although the Great Wall Hover H5 cannot provide super modern systems, what is there: rear-view cameras, decent media, heating – everything works well. The seat is adjustable, five tuning options are enough for the wave.

With a height of under two meters, it is comfortable for me in a chair, there is enough space for my legs – there are no problems that the first Dasters had. If the “pedal” is comfortable, then the steering wheel is almost on the chest, and if it is convenient to steer, then it is bad to reach the pedals.

The chair is moderately comfortable, it is clear that this is not an Audi, but after several hours behind the wheel, the shoulders do not ache, the back does not pull. There is also a flaw: poor sound insulation, with the onset of cold weather, the crossbars and rails began to creak and buzz – they had to be disassembled and lubricated.

The plastic in the cabin survived the frost perfectly, did not turn brown and did not crack, although this was the most disturbing. All buttons are well adjusted, “cheapness” in the cabin is not visible, everything is simple and practical.
