Rinspeed Snap Standalone Concept Revealed (photo)

The Swiss company Rinspeed, of which Frank Rinderknecht is the founder, has unveiled the fully autonomous shuttle Snap, which is controlled exclusively by electronics. More than 30 different firms have participated in the development of the model, while the prototype will be shown live in January 2018 at the CES consumer electronics show in Las Vegas.

In the cabin of such a vehicle, there are no traditional controls, and the machine is controlled by a computer, based on the readings of numerous sensors. To start moving, the car only needs to set the destination, and it will reach it by itself.

At the same time, the main feature of the Rinspeed Snap Concept is not an autopilot at all, but an unusual design. The brand’s specialists built the car on the Skateboard platform, and the Pod habitable module serves as the cockpit.

The Skateboard “cart” is highly maneuverable, as the steered wheels turn at a large angle here. A ZF electric motor is installed on the second axle, which develops from 38 to 69 hp. The engine receives energy for its operation from a set of 12 kWh batteries.

With such a filling, Rinspeed Snap can accelerate to 80 km / h, while the range of the unique electric car is only 100 km, which, according to Swiss experts, is enough for the city. The electronics independently monitors the battery charge and, if necessary, directs the car to the nearest charging station.

In turn, the Pod is completely independent from the cart, which allows it to be used as a delivery van, marketplace, mobile office or for camping. As part of the presentation, Rinspeed specialists showed the passenger version of the capsule with four separate seats.

Each passenger has their own display. Plus two more large TVs are located in the center of the cabin. The model also has laser projectors, as well as the function of saving individual settings for each of the passengers.

The side windows of the module can be dimmed, while messages are displayed on the front and rear windows for other road users.

The concept also has UV lamps, which are used to destroy bacteria in the cabin (after all, the drone is considered as a car for carsharing). Artificial intelligence is designed to entertain passengers on the way.

The Skateboard platform and the Pad module are completely independent from each other, which allows, for example, constantly modifying the “trolley”, while the passenger capsule remains unchanged. However, the serial production of Rinspeed Snap is not planned yet.
