While coupe-like crossovers used to be the preserve of premium brands, now more and more cars of this form factor are appearing in more affordable segments. While the Renault Arkana coupe-like SUV is gaining momentum in Russia, the Chinese from Haval have already launched the production of the F7x crossover with a sloping roof at their plant in Tula.
And now Skoda also takes a course for such cars, which was initially positioned as a brand that produces purely practical cars. Earlier, the coupe-like Kodiaq GT appeared in the line of the Czech manufacturer, and at the beginning of November its younger brother, the Kamiq GT, was presented. Alas – both models are intended exclusively for China.
The novelty is built on the basis of the usual Kamik, while the GT version has a similar wheelbase, although the car itself turned out to be somewhat longer and higher. Outside, the car repeats a lot of the previously presented Vision GT concept, except that the production version has ordinary door handles and standard rear-view mirrors.
The Skoda Kamik GT 2020 has a sportier appearance with a sloping coupe-shaped roof, while specialists from the Chinese concern SAIC helped the Czechs develop the design. As a result of their joint work, the subcompact SUV got 17-inch alloy wheels, more aggressive bumpers, and also narrower head optics.
Plus, the GT version of Kamik can be easily distinguished from the donor by its striking chrome decor, while a special golden metallic called “Modern Gold” is offered as an option. The changes in the cabin were not so significant.
The coupe-like modification received other front seats with more developed lateral support rollers. They are specially finished with striking stripes and exclusive stitching.
Also, the interior of the crossover draws attention to the logos and nameplates “GT”, which can be seen on the headrests and on the front panel.
The Kamik GT equipment list includes a modern multimedia with an 8.0-inch display and support for Apple CarPlay, Baidu CarLife and MirrorLink interfaces. In addition, the car has an engine start button, a multifunction steering wheel and one-zone climate control, and a panoramic roof can be ordered for a surcharge.
What power units are put on the coupe-like Skoda Kamiq GT 2020 is still unknown. It is expected that the crossover can be ordered with a 1.5-liter MPI engine with 111 hp and a 1.2-liter turbo engine with 116 hp.
By the way, the usual Chinese Kamik is equipped with the same units, while five- and six-speed mechanics, as well as a seven-speed DSG robot, will be available from the gearboxes for the model. The timing of the appearance of the GT version on the Chinese market and its cost have not yet been announced.
