In mid-March, the twenty-first, Skoda unveiled the Kushaq crossover, designed specifically for the Indian market. The company again managed to choose such a name for the model so that it starts with “K” and ends with “Q” – translated from Sanskrit (the ancient literary language of India) it means “king” or “emperor”.

The new Skoda Kushaq 2021 is the first model of the Czech brand built under the India 2.0 strategy. The latter is intended to strengthen the position of the Volkswagen concern in the local market.

At the same time, the declassified crossover is still not a full-fledged novelty. In fact, we have before us a Skoda Kamiq model converted to local requirements. The Indian SUV differs from the latter in a modified design of the “face” with a different head optics, as well as small plugs instead of windows in the rear roof pillars.

The interior architecture of the Skoda Kushak as a whole repeats that of the same Kamika, but the front panel is original here. It attracts attention with larger ventilation deflectors, as well as a 10.0-inch tablet-shaped screen of the multimedia system, under which the Czechs placed a touch-sensitive climate control unit.

Depending on the configuration, the SUV can have up to six airbags, while its top-end flaunts front seat ventilation and advanced contour lighting.

Skoda Kushak 2021 is built on the basis of the MQB-A0-IN platform, which is a simplified and cheaper version of the global “cart”. The overall length of the vehicle is 4,221 mm, the wheelbase is 2,651, the width is 1,760, the height is 1,612 mm, and the ground clearance is 188 millimeters. The declared trunk volume is 385 liters (1,405 liters with the rear row seats folded).

In the base, the Indian crossover comes with a liter petrol “turbo-triple” TSI with a capacity of 115 hp, which can work either with a mechanic or with a six-speed automatic. Alternatively, the car can be ordered with a 1.5-liter “turbo four” TSI for 150 forces. From the boxes, a mechanic and a seven-band DSG robot (model DQ200) are offered, and the drive is exclusively front.

The new Skoda Kushaq will enter the assembly line of the Indian plant in Pune. The declared degree of localization of the model is impressive – 95%, and the local enterprise will even produce liter engines. The cost of the crossover has not yet been announced.
