On March 31, 2016 in Los Angeles, a presentation of a new electric car from Tesla, which was named Model 3, took place. This model became the third in the manufacturer’s current lineup, joining the larger Model S and the Model X crossover.
Externally, the new Tesla Model 3 (2018-2019) looks like a smaller copy of the older Model S, especially for the sidewalls. But the front end here is completely different with a different head optics and the complete absence of a false radiator grille, which is generally unnecessary for an electric car.
Models and prices for Tesla Model 3 2021
|EV (262 л.с.) 60 kWh AT||3 500 000|
|EV (262 lbs) 85 kWh AT||4 000 000|
In the front bumper, diode running lights and a small air intake from below are registered, behind the Tesla Model 3 stands out with original lights and a trunk lid, and the interior of the electric car, according to the manufacturer, is able to provide sufficient space and comfort for five people.
The interior design is minimalist, the steering wheel is made in a sporty manner with a truncated rim at the bottom, and the branded vertically oriented display on the center console replaces a huge 15.0-inch monitor, as if from a home PC.
It is noteworthy that all information is displayed on this screen at all, so that Tesla Model 3 completely lacks the instrument panel, and not a single physical button remains on the front panel. The air ducts of the ventilation system are carefully camouflaged, and two small joysticks are installed on the steering wheel instead of keys.
Already in the base, the electric car has a two-section panoramic roof, and the second half is combined with the rear window, the doors here are frameless – from the inside they are opened using buttons instead of traditional handles. There are two luggage carriers in the car – their total volume is claimed to be 425 liters.
The overall length of the new Tesla Model 3 is 4 694 mm, the size of the wheelbase is 2 875, the width is 1 849, the height is 1 443. The body of the liftback is made of steel and aluminum, the mass of the electric car is not specified, Motor Trend publications.
So far, there are two rear-wheel drive versions available for the Model 3 (all-wheel drive will appear later). The initial version is equipped with a 235-horsepower electric motor and a 60 kWh battery. This “filling” allows you to accelerate from standstill to hundreds in 5.8 seconds, the maximum speed reaches 209 km / h, and the power reserve is 354 kilometers.
There is also a Long Range version where the battery capacity is increased to 85 kWh. This option is able to stretch 499 km without recharging, the maximum speed is slightly higher – 225 km / h, and it takes 5.3 seconds to accelerate to hundreds. You can recharge both from the household network and at Supercharger stations.
The latter in half an hour can replenish the battery supply by 209 (for the P60 version) and 274 km (for the P85), while an hour of charging from a home outlet will “pour” energy into the batteries for 48 and 59 kilometers, respectively. True, if the owners of the older Models S and X can use Supercharger terminals for free, then the owner of the “triplets” will have to pay.
Options and prices
Acceptance of orders for the Tesla Model S started immediately after the presentation, and in a year and a half the firm received 500,000 applications. The price of the initial modification is $ 35,000 and includes diode optics, dual-zone climate control, fabric seat upholstery, Wi-Fi transmitter and 18 “wheels. It is expected that in Russia a basic electric car will cost about 3,500,000 rubles, the order can be placed through Moscow Tesla Club.
For a car with a more capacious battery, they ask for $ 44,000, among the options are 19-inch wheels ($ 1,500), body paint in metallic color ($ 1,000, you don’t have to pay only for the basic black color) and the Premium Upgrades package ($ 5,000) , which includes advanced music, leather upholstery, and electric front seats and steering column.
Also, for $ 5,000 for the Tesla Model III, you can order the Autopilot function, which can automatically drive on the highway, drive through interchanges and automatically park. A full-fledged unmanned mode will appear a little later, but you will have to pay an additional $ 3,000 for it.
At the beginning of August 2017, the company redistributed the first 50 copies of the novelty to its customers, who in fact are employees of the company. In the context of the accelerated launch of the electric car into series, the manufacturer decided to abandon the traditional phase of test production. So the production volumes will increase gradually, and ordinary customers will receive their “troikas” by the end of the year.
