Until recently, there was no full-fledged coupe-like crossover in the European range in the Volkswagen lineup. The Taigo model, presented at the end of July 2021, is designed to fill the empty niche.
The Volkswagen Taigo is not a full-fledged novelty. In fact, we have before us the European version of the Brazilian model Nivus, which debuted in two thousand and twenty.
In terms of form factor, the coupe-like Taigo pulls more on a raised five-door hatchback. Already in the base, it has LED headlights, and for a surcharge, matrix optics with a luminous strip on the radiator grill are available.
The crossover can be ordered in both standard and “sporty” versions of the R-Line. The latter is characterized by a more aggressive bumper design and corresponding interior decor. Depending on the version chosen, the car can have wheels with a diameter of 16 to 18 inches.
The interior of the new Volkswagen Taigo largely repeats that of the Polo and T-Cross models. This means that the initial version of the crossover put an 8.0-inch digital tidy and a 6.5-inch screen of the multimedia system.
More expensive versions have a 10.25-inch device with several display modes and the ability to display navigation maps. The top-version multimedia display comes with a diagonal of 8.0 or 9.2 ″.
In the Old World market, the Volkswagen Taigo SUV is positioned as a coupe-like version of the VW T-Cross. This is no coincidence, since in terms of technology, these two cars have a lot in common.
Like the aforementioned T-Cross, the new Taigo is built on the MQB-A0 platform and has a semi-independent rear suspension. At the same time, the coupe-like SUV is noticeably longer: 4266 mm (+ 159), but slightly lower – 1758 mm (-64). But the wheelbase and width of these two models are almost identical – 2,566 and 1,757 mm, respectively.
The luggage compartment volume is fixed – 438 liters, although on the T-Cross the rear sofa has the ability to adjust in the longitudinal direction, which allows you to change the hold capacity in the range from 385 to 455 liters.
On the market, the Volkswagen Taigo in the new body will be offered exclusively with front-wheel drive, while the line of power units laid down for it repeats that of the European T-Cross.
This means that the initial version of the car is equipped with a liter “turbo-engine” TSI with a capacity of 95 hp, which works with a five-speed mechanics. Older versions have a 110-horsepower version of this motor, combined with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG robot.
The top version is driven by a 1.5-liter “turbo four” TSI with 150 “horses” and an uncontested seven-band robot. With such a “stuffing”, the off-road vehicle is capable of accelerating to 212 km / h.
The basic equipment of the cars is represented by Bluetooth, air conditioning, an automatic braking system and a central airbag located between the front seats. In older trim levels, climate control appears with a touch control unit. Of the paid options, it is worth noting the adaptive cruise control Travel Assist and the panoramic roof.
The serial production of the Volkswagen Taigo will be set up at the Spanish Seat plant in Barcelona. The appearance of the first cars in the showrooms of European dealers will take place in December 2021. The price tag is still indicative – from 20,000 euros (1.7 million rubles at the current exchange rate). At the same time, such a car should not be expected in Russia.
