In June, the twenty-first, the Americans introduced the compact Ford Maverick pickup. This truck has an exclusively two-row five-seater cab and from the outside pleases the eye with its original body design.
The novelty is characterized by the presence of large LED headlights (already in the base), catchy black inserts “in a circle”, as well as 17- or 18-inch wheels (depending on the configuration).
The interior of the pickup is largely unified with the Ford Bronco Sport model, but the front panel is somewhat different. There is an analog (dial) tidy and an 8.0-inch display of the multimedia system, to the right of which there is a niche for a mobile phone. The climate control unit is standard.
Interestingly, for cars in the older configuration (Lariat), the more advanced SYNC3 multimedia is offered, and the FordPass Connect complex is included in the list of basic equipment of the model.
The latter includes a modem and Wi-Fi with the ability to simultaneously connect up to 10 devices. The presence of this system allows the owner to remotely monitor the state of the car (find out the current fuel level, close and open doors, and also start or stop the engine).
The interior of the new Ford Mavrik 2021 also boasts well-thought-out ergonomics. There are cup holders and sections for transporting laptops / tablets in the doors of the pickup, and there is a large storage compartment under the folding cushion of the rear sofa.
Another feature of the truck is the Ford Integrated Tether System, which is a universal mount at the end of the center console. Interestingly, the Americans plan to publish the configuration of the latter on the network, which means that users will be able to independently create accessories for it using a 3D printer.
At the heart of the Ford Maverick 2022 in the new body is the stretched platform of the Bronco Sport and Escape crossovers. Consequently, the chassis of the model is spring-loaded with MacPherson struts at the front and independent suspension at the rear, although all components have been further strengthened.
In the family of American brand pickups, the new Maverick turned out to be the most compact model. The overall length of the vehicle is 5,072 mm, width – 1,844, height – 1,745, wheelbase – 3,075 millimeters.
The cargo area of the model is called Flexbed and reaches a length of 1.37 meters (with an open side – 1.8 meters). Interestingly, the developers have provided recesses in its sides for installing crossbars and dividers, and the same tailgate can be fixed in several intermediate positions.
In the cargo hold, you will find two 12-volt sockets and a bottle opener. For a surcharge, 110-volt sockets in the body and interior are offered, designed to connect a wide variety of household devices with a capacity of up to 400 watts.
Interestingly, the new Ford Maverick has a hybrid powertrain in the base. The latter here consists of a 2.5-liter ICE four-cylinder engine that works on the Atkinson cycle and develops 162 hp. (210 Nm).
An electric motor with a capacity of 126 forces (234 Nm) works in tandem with the internal combustion engine. The total output of the power plant reaches 191 “horses”. All this “herd” is transmitted to the front axle by means of a variator.
According to the developers, a full tank of a hybrid pickup can last 500 miles (805 km). At the same time, the truck has a carrying capacity of 680 kg and is capable of pulling a trailer weighing up to 907 kg.
As an alternative, a standard petrol version of the model will be offered, equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Ecoboost engine with 250 forces and 375 Nm of torque. This motor works in tandem with an eight-speed automatic machine.
By default, a gasoline truck has front-wheel drive, but a full one is offered for an additional charge. There is also an optional 4K Tow Package, which allows the machine to tow a trailer weighing up to 1,814 kg.
For all-wheel drive vehicles, the FX4 package is offered. It includes underbody protection, reinforced suspension with off-road tires, and additional ride electronics modes (Mud / Rut and Sand).
Ford is confident that the compact Maverick will be of interest to people who have never even thought about buying a real pickup before. A democratic price tag is also intended to draw attention to the new product – from $ 19,995 (1.45 million rubles at the current exchange rate).
Serial production of the truck will be established at a plant in the Mexican city of Hermosillo, and it will appear on the market in the fall of the twenty-first. The car will be offered in three different trim levels (XL, XLT and Lariat), but it will initially be available in a “welcome” First Edition.
