the new Chinese crossover appeared in two versions

The Chinese company BYD has presented its next (fifth) crossover. The novelty was named “Song Plus” and in the model range is located between the SUVs Song Pro and Tang.

BYD Song Plus 2021 was designed by a team of experts led by Wolfgang Egger, who previously worked for Audi and Alfa Romeo. It is interesting that the crossover is presented in two versions at once – gasoline and electric, which differ from each other in the front part of the body.

The ICE variant is easily recognizable by its massive hexagonal grille and angular front bumper with large side sections, while the electric variant lacks a grille and the bumper is slightly different.

Also, the new BYD Song Plus boasts LED headlights (already in the base), a sloping roofline, narrow headlights and a rear bumper with ventilation slots. SUV wheels are offered in sizes up to 20 inches.

The interior of the car has an exclusively five-seater layout, and the front seats are equipped with unusual integrated head restraints. The interior itself is made in a minimalistic style, although the front panel is distinguished by built-in diode illumination, which can act as a “light music”.

Additionally, the crossover is equipped with a virtual device with several display modes and a separately located “tablet” of the multimedia system. The latter has a diagonal of 12.8 inches and is rotatable, that is, it can be placed both horizontally and vertically.

This display controls not only entertainment functions, but also climate control settings. As for other equipment, the crossover is equipped with cruise control, a panoramic roof and electric front seats.

The new 2021 BID Song Plus is built on the platform of the older Tang model, which means that there is a multi-link suspension at the rear. The overall length of the SUV reaches 4 705 mm, and its wheelbase is 2 765 mm.

It is reported that the gasoline modification is based on a 1.5-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 185 hp. and a seven-speed robot with two wet clutches. In turn, the electric car drives a 184-horsepower electric motor located on the front axle, which receives energy from a lithium-iron-phosphate traction battery. The declared cruising range is 505 km (according to the NEDC cycle).

The drive of both versions is exclusively front-wheel drive; in the future, a hybrid version may also appear. The new BYD Song Plus will go on sale before the end of summer 2020. The price of the crossover has not yet been advertised, but it will definitely be more expensive than the Song Pro SUV (from $ 13,000), but cheaper than the Tang (from $ 19,000).
