On June 9, 2021, Toyota held a presentation of the new Land Cruiser 300 SUV, which retained the frame structure, but at the same time became much more modern than the “two hundred”. Acceptance of orders for the new product was opened in early July, but the start of sales in Russia is scheduled for August.
The petrol-powered versions will be the first to arrive, while diesel modifications will have to wait until autumn. So far, three trim levels are offered for the TLC 300 (Elegance, Comfort + and 70th Anniversary), and the price of the model starts from 5.6 million rubles, but in the current conditions dealers will certainly continue to significantly cheat from above.

- Equipment Elegance provides reflex diode headlights, dual-zone climate control, multimedia with a 9.0-inch screen and a rear-view camera (with washer), electric driver’s seat (upholstery in the base is fabric), keyless access to the salon, starting the engine with a button, blocking rear differential and 18 “wheels.
- Execution Comfort + additionally has four-zone climate control, leatherette seat upholstery, ventilation and heated front seats (both are electrically adjustable), a color screen in the instrument cluster, all-round cameras, adaptive cruise control and a complex of electronic assistants.
In addition, this option includes a front differential lock and an adaptive suspension with hydraulic cylinders instead of stabilizer struts (E-KDSS). Outside, such a car can be recognized by black rims, a spoiler above the trunk lid, additional footrests and lensed optics.
- Anniversary version 70th Anniversary sports 20-inch wheels, genuine leather upholstery, sunroof, JBL audio system, media system with a 12.3 ″ screen, heated and ventilated second-row seats, as well as projection. However, there are no off-road systems here – even in the rear axle there is a conventional limited slip differential.
The design of the new Toyota Land Cruiser 300 (2021-2022) can be estimated from the photo – not all fans of the model liked the appearance, although the car still looks large and massive. The exact overall dimensions are not reported, but they almost completely repeat their predecessor – even the overhangs are the same here.
The salon meets with a completely different front panel, a different instrument panel (here it is exclusively analog) and a free-standing multimedia system screen. In the top version, the latter goes to 12.3 ″, and in the simpler ones they put the monitor at 10.0 ″ or even 7.0 ″, plus there is support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as projection.
The company did not succumb to the fashion for sensors and retained physical buttons, levers and knobs in the cabin for controlling various systems and functions. But the journalists noted that for some reason there was less space in the car. Also, the SUV has lost its tailgate – now the Land Cruiser has a one-piece trunk lid.
The TLC 300 also lost its V8 engines. So far in the lineup there is a 3.5-liter V6 with dual supercharging, which is also installed on the Lexus LS 500 sedan. Such an engine produces 415 hp. and 650 Nm of torque, providing acceleration to hundreds in 6.8 seconds. True, the fuel consumption is declared not much lower than the previous aspirated.
As for the 3.3-liter turbodiesel, this is a completely new unit, which was developed jointly with Mazda (later it will be installed on the CX-9 crossovers). They do not plan to derate it to a taxable 249 forces – in the specification for the Russian Federation, the diesel engine develops 299 hp. (700 Nm), although in some markets it produces 309 “horses”. Both engines are paired with a new 10-speed automatic of our own production.
Like its predecessor, the new TLC 300 is based on a spar frame, but the design of the latter has undergone major changes and has become noticeably lighter. Thus, most of the “cart” is made of five-millimeter steel, while in the most loaded places the Japanese used the technology of specialized welded blanks TWB (Tailor Welded Blanks).
The upgraded platform also featured oversized cross members. This means that the structure is now designed for much higher loads than before. According to the Japanese, its stiffness increased by 20%.
As for the body, it is made of high-strength steels for the 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser 300, and the developers used special steel with increased anti-corrosion resistance for the manufacture of the floor and thresholds. Almost all the outer panels are aluminum (only the rear fenders remained steel).
The company reports that the total body and frame of the model have become 200 kg lighter, but the curb weight of the SUV has remained at the same level – more than 2 600 kg. But the developers managed to lower the center of gravity and improve the axle weight distribution.
The suspension design of the Land Cruiser 2022 in the new body essentially remained the same: double wishbones are installed in the front of the car, and a continuous rear axle is installed at the rear. The most affordable version of the model has passive shock absorbers and anti-roll bars. On the more expensive options, the shock absorbers are adaptive. The ground clearance of the SUV is declared at 230 mm.
The KDSS roll control system familiar from its predecessor is now called “E-KDSS”. Instead of stabilizer struts, hydraulic cylinders are now used here, capable of clamping and opening. Electronics is responsible for its performance.
The brake system of the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 with the change of generation, again, practically did not change. Depending on the version, ventilated discs ranging in size from 340 to 354 mm can be installed on the front wheels of the car, but at the rear the diameter of the discs is fixed – 345 mm.
At the same time, the electro-hydraulic booster was improved in the braking system, due to which, even in the “crawling” Crawl Control mode, the car should make less noise. By the way, about the riding presets. Now the SUV has six modes for driving on asphalt, two of which are positioned as “sporty”.
In turn, the Multi Terrain Select system provides access to off-road settings. Here, to the well-known modes “Sand”, “Mud” and “Stones” added a new item – “Deep snow”. We also note that soon on the basis of the new TLC 300 the premium Lexus LX 570 of the next generation will be presented, plus the company is working on replacing the Land Cruiser Prado model.
