At the 2018 New York Auto Show, Volkswagen has unveiled the Atlas Cross Sport, a five-seater concept crossover. The model is an almost production-ready vehicle that will hit the US market in 2019.

VW Atlas Cross Sport Concept is built on the basis of the seven-seat Atlas (in Russia it is known as Teramont). The prototype received a sportier exterior with a completely redesigned front end and different LED headlights.

Other changes include a more sloping roof with a spoiler at the end, as well as a different shape of the C-pillars. Also, the crossover has got more muscular wheel arches, which have registered 22-inch aluminum wheels.

The Atlas Cross Sport cabin has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen multimedia system. The functionality of the latter can be controlled both from the screen and using a gesture system. There is also a third display, from which climate control is controlled, as well as heated and ventilated seats.

The interior itself has received a two-tone design with metallic accents and decorative inserts under the “black piano”. Plus, one cannot fail to note the luxurious multifunction steering wheel and the handle for changing the operating modes of the 4MOTION Active Control all-wheel drive system.

The overall dimensions of the concept car are 4,846, 2,029 and 1,734 mm in length, width and height, respectively. Thus, the “sports” modification turned out to be 190, 40 and 44 mm shorter, narrower and lower than the commercial seven-seat model.

The prototype is powered by a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 3.6-liter V6 engine and two electric motors powered by a set of 18 kWh lithium-ion batteries. The total output of the units is 355 forces.

According to representatives of the German brand, such an Atlas is capable of accelerating from zero to hundreds in 5.4 seconds, and its maximum speed reaches 209 kilometers per hour. In all-electric mode, the vehicle can travel almost 42 km.

In addition, the company is considering a more traditional hybrid with the same power plant, but with a smaller battery – only 2.0 kWh. In this case, the total power of the units will be 310 hp, which will allow the off-road vehicle to accelerate to the first hundred in 6.5 seconds.

Representatives of the brand have not yet spread about the serial version of the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport. It is known that the crossover will receive the same engines as the standard Atlas, the box for them is an 8-band automatic, plus 4MOTION all-wheel drive. The model will be released in Chattanooga (Tennessee).
