In Brazil, the premiere of the new coupe-like crossover Volkswagen Nivus took place. The car was developed by the specialists of the local division of the German brand and in fact is the first completely “Brazilian” model.
In addition to the sloping roofline, from the outside, the new Volkswagen Nivus 2019-2020 is notable for its narrow head optics, visually combined with a blackened radiator grill, as well as a muscular hood with stamping and massive black plastic linings on the wheel arches.
The main feature of the model’s interior is the new VW Play multimedia system with an 8.0-inch display. This entertainment complex was developed specifically for Brazil, and in the future it will be received by some other models presented in the South American market.
In addition, the SUV’s interior boasts a 10.0-inch digital instrument cluster, adaptive cruise control and a rear-view camera. The new 2021 Volkswagen Nivus body is based on the MQB-A0 modular platform with semi-independent rear suspension and McPherson struts in front.
The overall length of the SUV is 4,266 mm, the wheelbase is 2,566, the height is 1,493, and the trunk volume is 415 liters. The VW Nivus is reported to be just “10mm more ground than the Polo”, a difference largely due to the presence of high-profile tires. By the way, the top version has 17-inch wheels with 205/55 tires.
The Brazilian Volkswagen Nivus has received a liter three-cylinder TSI turbo engine, which works in conjunction with a six-speed automatic. You can refuel the car with both gasoline and ethanol, and in the first case, the output of the unit is 116 hp, and in the second – 128 hp. The drive of the model is exclusively front (a feature of the MQB-A0 platform).
The standard equipment of the car includes disc brakes in a circle, six airbags and an electronic imitation of the XDS differential lock. Serial production and start of sales of new items in Brazil are scheduled for the summer of 2020. Around the same time, the car will appear in Argentina, and a little later, deliveries will be made to Mexico.
Moreover, in the second half of two thousand twenty-first Volkswagen Nivus is expected in Europe. The crossover for the Old World will receive a number of unique features and a different line of power units, while its production will be set up at the Seat plant in Barcelona. It is possible that over time such a car will appear in Russia, but so far there is no reliable information on this matter.
