Journalists of the Za Rulem publication spoke about the strengths and weaknesses of the Chinese crossover Geely Coolray, revealed during the long-term operation of the car.
Speaking about the advantages of the model, representatives of the magazine emphasize that Gili Coolray is built on the basis of the BMA platform, which means that it is a close relative of the Swedish Volvo XC40. In particular, both crossovers have the same engines and transmissions.
The Russian version of the model is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbo engine, derated 150 hp. Despite the loss of 22 “horses”, the torque of the power unit remained unchanged (255 Nm), so if the dynamics of the SUV suffered, it was insignificant. The car is going very briskly, and the well-tuned 7-band robot with a “wet” clutch also contributes to the driver’s character.
Interestingly, the journalists came to the conclusion that the quality and level of equipment Geely Coolray is practically not inferior to the more “thoroughbred” Volvo XC40. For example, a top-end car for 1.5 million rubles can boast a car park, keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, remote engine start, a panoramic roof, a surround view system and a front camera, which can act as a standard DVR here.
Salon “Chinese” is spacious and leaves mostly pleasant impressions, only the line of glazing here is still high. Such a nuance may go unnoticed by adult passengers, but it becomes inconvenient for children to admire the surroundings.
Also, certain questions arise about the Isofix mounts, which are sunk into the chairs too deep here and for their trouble-free use you will have to purchase special expanders, since the latter are inexpensive.
The experts of the Russian edition were also disappointed with the trunk of Kulray. According to the data sheet, the volume of the latter is 330 liters, but in fact the journalists measured only 264 liters. Moreover, the fastening of the trunk shelf is not reliable and if you touch it, then with the fifth door open, it may well fly out of the guides.
In addition, some of the systems announced in the equipment do not work as we would like. For example, the aforementioned car parker can be activated by pressing and holding a special button, while touching the steering wheel and pedals, otherwise the assistant will be deactivated.
