What’s Wrong With The Chinese Crossover?

Blogger Ilya Sviridov continues to analyze the models popular on the Russian market, publishing video reviews on the Club Service Youtube channel. This time, a new crossover Haval Jolion fell into his hands.

Recall that the assembly of the latter is being carried out at the plant of the Chinese brand in Tula, and the expert was curious to find out how things are with the quality of this car.

Haval Jolion

A front-wheel drive car in the top configuration for 1.7 million rubles, equipped with a 1.5-liter turbo engine and a seven-band preselective robot, was disassembled.

The blogger immediately noticed that the budget Jolion is especially noticeable when dismantling the cabin. The rear arches of the car were covered with felt, and the developers use foam rubber as insulation. Noise insulation here is thin, and some of the body panels are simply covered with cellophane.

The anti-corrosion treatment of the crossover at the Tula plant is clearly selective. So, in the doors of the disassembled vehicle, the protective composition is the very minimum, and in the cavities below it is not at all. As for the bottom, here the anticorrosive is sprayed unevenly.

Interestingly, the blogger has already noticed traces of surface corrosion on the front suspension joints, although the car that fell into his hands has a purely symbolic mileage – only 400 km.

Again, the Haval specialists did not bother with the processing of welded seams: in some places the polymer substance was not applied very accurately. Plus, the expert was disappointed by the underbody protection with huge openings, as well as the exhaust system, which runs right under the rear beam. The “Chinese” fuel plastic tank was not covered at all.

At the same time, Sviridov praised the model for its high-quality plastic, and also noted the strength of the clips, due to which the lining can be removed several times. The blogger did not have any complaints about the wiring, the harnesses of which were laid neatly and competently.

The 16-valve four-cylinder turbo engine put to Jolyon was structurally reminiscent of the 20-year-old Toyota Echo, although the latter does not have a turbine. The man noted that the reliability of the motor, as well as the robotic gearbox, cause him some concerns.

In addition, the author of the review warned potential buyers that the Haval Jolion could seriously lose in value when resold. In his opinion, in a couple of years, such a crossover can be sold for only half the price.
