While The Electric Car Vision-s Is Only A Concept

At CES 2020, Sony unexpectedly unveiled its first car, an electric sedan called the Vision-S Concept. But in fact, the new product is still not an independent development of Sony.

The specialists of the Japanese brand have developed for the concept only electronics and advanced software with the rudiments of artificial intelligence, and the rest were helped by partners. So, the Austrians from the engineering firm Magna Steyr, as well as Bosch, Continental, Nvidia, ZF and Qualcomm were involved in the project.

Outside, the Sony Vision-S Concept features a sleek exterior design with a stylish front bumper and striking headlights linked together by an LED strip. Plus, the car attracts attention with a black sloping roof and large wheels.

As with most modern prototypes, the interior of the model is a true display kingdom. There are five of them on the front panel of the car, and the monitors at the edges here display the image from cameras installed instead of rear-view mirrors. The electric car also has a display instead of a salon mirror, and several more monitors are mounted in the center console and backrests of the front seats.

The main feature of the concept, the developers are positioning the 360 Reality Audio audio system, the speakers of which are built right into the seats. It is reported that such a solution is able to provide the highest quality and surround sound for both the driver and passengers in the cabin.

Plus, the company reports that Vision-S has Internet access and is capable of playing streaming video. In addition, you can connect to the electric car remotely using mobile devices. But the developers do not particularly talk about the technical stuffing of the machine.

It is known that the sedan is built on a new platform developed specifically for this concept by Magna Steyr. The car itself is equipped with two electric motors, the total power of which reaches 544 hp. From zero to hundreds, it is able to accelerate in 4.8 seconds, reaching speeds of up to 239 km / h.

Sony’s concept electric sedan is equipped with 33 sensors. They assess the situation both outside the car and the situation inside (for example, monitor driver fatigue). It is also known that the prototype has an autopilot, but what level of autonomy the latter is is not specified.

The presented concept can be considered as a kind of statement of intentions of Sony, but it is still unknown whether the Japanese will decide to launch it into a series and start a full-fledged production of cars. It is possible that the prototype was created with the aim of attracting attention, and the project has no future.
